New animated show announced... Star Wars: Resistance

^ Berserk is so ugly I can't even. It all depends on who is doing the show. Most 3D anime series are done by people with only 2D animation experience, with a few 3D "experts" but they're largely trying to animate their 3D characters with 2D thinking, and it doesn't translate well, especially in anime where the normal animation conventions are designed to animate with the bare minimum of actual animation, whereas 3D doesn't look right unless its fully animated. Land of the Lustrous is an actual blend of both styles rather than trying to fit a circle into a square hole. Time's are slowly changing in anime as artists are starting to adapt to what is still a really new medium in Japan.

@flavaflav , you should also check out BLAME! on Netflix. That's a much more grungy and dirty looking production, but handles its 3D beautifully. It's how Berserk should have been done.

So this is just gonna be Rebels 2.0, then? Even the title is basically the same. So basically, the dullest, most obvious concept for the next show. Pass.

Ok, which characters from Rebels will show up? You know it's gonna happen...
I kind of expect Hera and/or her son to show up.

Someone I do not expect to see in this series are Sabine, Ahsoka and Ezra. I suspect that story is being saved for its own thing. Although this show will likely be set something like five years prior to TFA, the tie-ins are pretty clear the Republic didn't become aware of the First Order until about six years prior, with the Resistance being formed shortly there after. Taking twenty-five years to find Ezra might be pretty reasonable. After all, the whales presumably wanted to take Thrawn's Star Destroyer someplace very far away.

We have very little information on the show except a very basic premise, it is way too early to say anything like that.

Well Filoni is involved and he paid homage to "Clone Wars" in Rebels and he's now going to be working on "Resistance" and it's also going to be on Disney XD.

Chances are high for some "Rebels" nods IMO

When it comes right down to it, Star Wars only needed to be ONE movie.

The 1977 film was just right as a standalone story. SW became bloated going forward. But I still enjoy it all.

I barely watched Star Wars Rebels, but I love that it exists. It's still on my 'i'll get to it some time' pile. There can never be 'too much' Star Wars...just consume what you want to consume; ignore the rest. I loved the Clone Wars series for its art and writing. Rebels was really pretty, but the character designs left something to be desired, and started off it's first season pretty dull. From the things I've read, it seems like it ended up being really good, so I'll hopefully revisit it later. If Resistance looks ugly and doesn't capture me quickly, I'll likely let this one pass too.

But there should always, always be more Star Wars.

Until more is released about this series, I can not make an opinion beyond a "well isn't that nice."

I like all the Star Wars stories. All the characters, the planets, etc. Kinda bummed some of the old EU is getting over written, but I do like all the new stuff coming out. Even the retro stuff that is supposed to be aimed at the older fans (Rogue One, Solo.)

Maybe they could do a different take on the Heir to the Empire trilogy. Paelleon and Thrawn are already there, so would be cool to see. And I would like to know what happened to Ezra as well.

But every background character getting a back story was what Star Wars was all about for awhile there. Was even the premise for the now defunct Star Wars Galaxies.

Paelleon and Thrawn are already there,
Pellaeon's probably dead by now. He wasn't actually on the Chimaera, but rather one of the other Star Destroyers orbiting Lothal. Given his report to Thrawn of the whales' arrival was cut-off, the implication is likely his ship was destroyed.

Pellaeon's probably dead by now.
Filoni said he didn't intend that to be his death.

“Even though his radio transmission gets cut off there, I’m not trying to say that Pellaeon would be dead,” Filoni said. “I don’t think that’s it for him. I would like to see other stories with the guy.”

“I just wanted to mention the name so it gets in there, so it’s something people can use,” he said. “And sometimes that’s what I can do for things that come out of Legends. I could create just another Captain with some name there or I could put someone like Pellaeon in play. And then maybe he gets picked up in comics or novels, I don’t know. But I think that would be kind of fun to do, and it’s a way to get that idea rolling.”

But yeah he wasn't on the Chimaera with Thrawn and Ezra.

Oh, damn. That was something on the wishlist of things to see in this rumored series. But then... why would they show that? We probably "saw" as much of that as we will ever see in The Last Jedi.

I have a feeling anything involving the whole Ben Solo/Kylo Ren transition is probably off limits at least until episode IX.
You know what Star Wars needs?

NOT more material. Too bad that is never going to happen.
The Star War universe is huge, with room for an almost infinite amount of stories, and as long as the stories we're getting continue to be as good as what we've been getting, I'll happily welcome more.

I don't know. What Star Wars already had, even before these new Disney films, was already under utilized or poorly explored; there was more than enough to already play with. Expanding it further just, in my opinion, creates even more under developed and poorly connected ideas.

.

Yeah you are probably right, and this lack of a need for a connection to the films is also evident when you see Rebels in its entirety. Spoilers: Rebels and Rogue One
There is never a really huge crossover event linking Rebels to Rogue One. Just a few cosmetic links like Saw Guererra, U-Wings, name dropping Stardust/Death Star, Death Troopers, etc.

At the time Rebels was airing it seemed like such a safe assumption. The end of Rebels season 4 should be almost to the point that Rogue One happens by a few months or so.

As for Resistance... it's difficult to get excited without knowing much but the idea of a fighter pilot being the lead works for me! I loved how much space combat we saw in Rebels... please keep it coming.

Not sold on the style, tho. 'Anime' style Star Wars.... hmmmm. I just don't know about that. I've seen fan made anime riffs off Star Wars and it doesn't really do it for me. But then again, each CW series and Rebels series' style took some getting used to.

I kind of wonder of Episode IX might not have some easter eggs from this show like Rogue One did from Rebels like Chopper cameo, the Ghost being seen in the fleet, the PA announcement for General Syndullah.
