USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

That parallel would make sense if China had been on America's side during the war, in an uneasy-yet-beneficial relationship that could yet turn hostile given the wrong circumstances
I can't tell of you're being sarcastic or if you are genuinely unaware that this literally WAS what happened in World War II...

and no American had ever seen or heard of Japan prior to Pearl Harbor - only to then become all too familiar with their kamikaze planes
That's just it, lots of other people -- especially the Vulcans -- had at least heard of Romulus before the war. We later found out that they had been running the entire Vulcan government by proxy through Minister V'Las, so clearly they had operatives outside of their own territory as well.

As another analogy: how many Americans had ever heard of Vietnam before we declared war on them? How many of those same Americans would have been shocked and confused by the fact that people in Vietnam have generally Asian features?

And their ships would rather scuttle themselves with incendiary bombs than let the Americans capture so much as a single Japanese soldier.
There's nothing to suggest that incendiary bombs or disfigurement of any kind was actually standard procedure for Romulans, only that they committed suicide rather than be captured. Of course, even with this being their standing order, it is extremely difficult to presume that this order would have been followed to the letter in all possible circumstances; the Japanese, after all, had similar orders that they failed to follow reliably, and they were if anything just as fanatical as the Romulans pretend to be.

Ritual suicide.
... isn't universally carried out even among societies that expect it.

And even if it was, most forms of suicide probably wouldn't vaporize the bodies of the entire crew consistently enough that Starfleet wouldn't even know what the Romulans looked like.

Wasn't Archer said to have made it to that launch party?
Yes, and he died one day later at the age of 133.

I finally binge-watched the second half of Season 1, and I saw the Enterprise.
Close enough, I guess.

Shaka, when the walls fell...

Yes, I am very aware of what happened - and didn't happen - in World War II. I was speaking metaphorically. The key word in my analogy was IF.

3D artist Chris Kuhn paintstakingly modeled the new DSC Enterprise by lining up his 3d wireframes to screen grabs of the Enterprise from the end of the episode. What resulted was pretty darn accurate I think. So I did some different view renders to get a better look. This one just isn't growing on me...

Looks okay or even good for the most part, but I hope the actual onscreen ship has the "U.S.S. ENTERPRISE" on the saucer section stenciled in a straight line like the original TOS version while the "NCC-1701" curves with the contours of the saucer.

Thanks for posting these PixelMagic!

It is a solid design and overall doesn't look bad. I mostly like what they did to the individual components. I just really wish they had not flattened it or angled the pylons. Without those changes it would be pretty much perfect. Flattening just changes the overall profile drastically, and it also forced the to change the aesthetically pleasing 45 degree angle of the pylons (though this is still way better than pushing the engines close together like they did in Kelvinprise. I really don't understand how anyone could think that was a good idea.) I also don't like how the front of the neck is so boxy. It was more rounded in all other versions, and looked better that way. I'd really love to see this ship with that beautiful Kelvinverse pure white surface texture. That was one thing they totally nailed in that version.

If this was just some other Constitution class ship, and not the Enterprise, then my nits would not matter, I would just accept it as a class variant. I am just very (irrationally, some may say) attached to the original design, and I would have wished they would have exhibited a tad more restraint with this specific vessel. Not that I expected 100% TOS look, as I said, I'm fine with most changes, it is just the neck and pylons which alter the look too much for my liking. It no longer passes my squint test. (If I squint, can I tell it apart from the original.)

That shuttlebay looks extremely...tiny.
As in: Not even twize the length of the bridge window. Which seems....too tiny.
