USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It's my impression as well, but I have to admit that the Reboot-A has grown on me, in good part thanks to Nightfever's CGI model.

Only if by "original" you mean "a reimagining of the original 1701, like the previous reboot ship". In fact, that's what I'm disappointed about: it doesn't push the reboot design in new directions; it's just another take on the TOS Enterprise.

If you take away the blue nebula, it looks darn near identical to the TOS Enterprise. It looks even more like it than the TMP enterprise.

Looks good in the TOS-R Cage Nebula too.

No, it doesn't. Not if you know the TOS ship.

The TMP ship is the one it most resembles, but clumsily.

I'd always thought those were heat dissipation grilles or something similar. The FJ blueprints claim they're "deflector shield grids".

Certainly there are similar looking grilles on the refit and other later classes.

You're mis-reading the label. "Deflector shield grid" clearly points to one of the two vertical lines that run up the pylon. On sheet #2, corresponding lines lead into the pylons from what's also labelled "deflector shield grid" that runs along top of the secondary hull.

The Discoprise (and I hope they keep that name) is what I would call an updated version of the original, a modernizing that retains a lot of the original look and "tries" to honor it.

The DSC Enterprise's nacelles are a pretty clear mashup between those of the TOS ship and the NX-01, which - if you're going to visually reimagine the TOS Enterprise's nacelles - is a pretty decent direction to take since the NX-01 was essentially just the original Enterprise's nacelles with 24th century touches added like the glowing blue grills.

If I had to redesign the NCC-1701's warp nacelles to look slightly different but still largely the same I'd probably use design elements from the NX-01 as well. Archer's vessel has some very cool-looking warp nacelles.

It's a small thing, I admit, but I think what bothers me most about the new nacelles is that additional blade-like thing on the bottom. It just seems gratuitous and out of place.

I'd use the Nacelles from the Franklin, for me that was the perfect revamp of the TOS warp nacelles.

Who was the main designer of this incarnation of the legendary USS Enterprise?
John Eaves if I'm not mistaken.
