USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

If people are expecting the Enterprise, throw them a curve ball, with a Connie Farragut with Lt. Kirk?? Changing that ship will p)$$ off the hardcore fans less?

The Farragut would be less controversial, but you know Trekkies. We'd shank a bitch over a line of dialogue from a TAS episode so this can only end in a bloodbath of Nerdrage.

Yep. I personally am 100% fine with any change made to the Enterprise as long as it's a beautiful/cool change. The only problem I have with the 2009 Enterprise is that it's ugly, not that it was changed.

Too big and too ugly. But it is what it is, and at least you can explain that away as Starfleet engineering in a post-2233 Kelvin timeline.

That said, I really love the Kelvin timeline 1701-A because it pretty much corrects everything I hated about the JJprise. If the DSC Connie looks this good, I'll be pretty happy.

We have more of a proper sense of scale with the 1701-A because you can see a travel pod or shuttle docking ring on the edge of the saucer.

And let's be honest, the Farragut disaster could be made into a pretty good DSC episode, couldn't it?

One must wonder -- will DSC jump the shark and go the route in season 2 of exploring such stories from TOS? The Farragut is certainly one. What others are possible?

That's not "jumping the shark". If there's a story to be had in the thing with the Farragut - which is due to happen right about "now", timeline-wise - then why not tell it? It's only "jumping the shark" if it's a BAD episode.

We've only got 9 years to go until TOS. There's bound to be SOME overlap.

The Farragut disaster is the most important historical event in the Prime canon for 2257. The only other one I can remember offhand is McCoy breaking up with Nancy Crater. So unless a thirty-year-old Lieutenant McCoy suddenly appears and dejected over a recent romantic breakup the Tycho IV attack is about the only TOS event they could lift for a story idea.

"Jump the shark?" Isn't this what Prequels do is explore previously reference stories or events in a property?
