Sexion thirdy-won is teh sux!

The pendulum swings both ways, eh? ;)

If the black badge we saw means nothing, is leftover from a scrapped early draft then they could have very easily cut that 10 second scene without compromising anything but they didn't. It's there on display for all to see so it does mean something. It probably indicates the sensitive nature of the spore drive mission but S31 cannot be 100% ruled out.

This episode has me more worried about a reset button being pushed. THAT would be the sux for me.

Also, the pacing hit a wall here. I've been spoiled by their warp speed story telling so it became difficult to stay focused on this story. But the Georgiou reveal was brilliant!

Black badges are guarding a room full of future disco crew, even Lorca doesn’t know they are there...xD (it doesn’t fit. Though they are totally STO temporal fiddling this end. Black badges are a tailor option, and who didn’t enjoy standing on Kirks enterprise with Admiral Chekhov, or the J with Scott)

I agree that was a bit odd. I think the better choice would have been some kind of Delta patch on the shoulder (both on the prisoner and "specialist" uniforms) similar to the ENT patches - or even just sewn-in like the classic TOS shirts.

The other thing that's odd about not having one on her uniform is it's clearly shown that they also function as dog tags.

*I've always wondered if the 24C combadges worked the same way with some kind of retrievable techie-tech inside the communications bits.

The 24C ones are insanely advanced. They can pass through fabric.

Section 13 in the mirror universe is a secret organization that goes good things for you when you least expect it. They dress in rainbow wigs and little else. This is about as inconspicuous as Sec 31 uniform choice.

A clandestine organization that no one in the Federation even knows exists does not advertise itself by super cool badges and painting its name on its ship.
My criticism stands however. Yes yes we know the badges are probably vestiges of what might have been part of another plotline from Fuller. Not explaining the appearance of them certainly does invite alternate, however improbable, explanations for their existence.

I can't believe this thread accommodated a long discussion about Saru being referred to as "captain", but mostly ignored the more major inconsistencies such as "100AU" and the ISS Discovery just happening to pop into the Prime Universe!

… major inconsistencies such as … the ISS Discovery just happening to pop into the Prime Universe!
What inconsistency is there to discuss? That's essentially exactly what happened back when we were originally introduced to the Mirror Universe in Jerome Bixby's “Mirror, Mirror”: whoever – and apparently also whatever – crosses into the Mirror Universe switches places with their mirror counterparts. It's a ridiculous concept if you think about it too much, but that's how it was introduced.

What I find more troublesome is that the writers went out of their way to let the crew hypothesize on the ISS Discovery roaming their universe, only to follow up on it in the most unimaginative way possible.

There's an entire thread dedicated to 100AUs in this forum.

What do you think, we're getting soft?

There's a whole thread about the 100AU thing.

But in that instance the mirror crew was apparently using their transporters in the same place at the same time, which in combination with the ion storm caused the swap. Here mirror Discovery could not have been using the shroom drive at the same moment, as they apparently didn't have tech.

Although if you recall the moment when our Discovery jumped into the MU there's a brief glimpse of the ship splitting in two and appearing to be two vessels occupying the same jump point. The spore jump on our side could have opened up a momentary mycelial network rift in the location of the Mirror Discovery and the rift grabbed their ship and deposited it in our universe. The energy generated by the mycelial network created a split-second opening between the two universes and sucked their ship in much how Spock Prime was accidentally drawn into the Red Matter black hole in 2387.

No spore drive necessary on their side.*

Funny thing about that scene, when the one prisoner comments about never seeing a black badge before, when in fact he did. Michael's tan jumpsuit had an all-black badge on it. Always found that line of dialogue kind of odd.
I think they may have mused over them briefly for the Episode 3 AfterTrek, the only time they were ever seen, but I don't recall ever hearing them seen or mentioned since then.
The Mandela Effect ?
