I've written on the "So what's the Emperor's play here?" thread (page one) on this and why what we've seen could be perfectly reasonable for Cornwell's and the Admiralty's actions. In short, don't forget what our evil Pippa knows from the pre-redacted Defiant logs.....she is a huge military asset (to S31 in particular). They have the perfect way to use her to win the war, get intelligence from her, then have her conveniently die. And she'll never see it coming because she only knows Starfleet's "official" history (in the Defiant logs) NOT the real history that we'll see next week and which will become classified.
Are we gonna get a cliffhanger next week?
Been a while since we've had a Trek cliffhanger.
Been even longer since we had proper ones.
Yeah, like I mentioned elsewhere, unless I've made a mistake over when the logs were redacted and how much the Emperor knows, I am convinced elements of Starfleet will want to use that little peek into their next few years (at least, the official version that the logs will show, which is what the Emperor knows). So yeah, my hypothesis fits in perfectly with yours concerning Cornwell. I'd hope Burnham doesn't become a fall guy but that her actions gets her at least partially reinstated....but your prediction is just as likelyI always have a suspicion that Cornwell is a Section 31 agent/operative. She's the one who allowed the Emperor to take the captain's chair, knowing full well that she's a power-hungry psychopath responsible for the deaths of perhaps billions of creatures in the MU during her reign of terror.
Cornwell did it because she wants something from the Emperor. And once she obtains it, she will have her killed - perhaps 'accidentally' through Burnham's hands, making the latter to be the fall guy again as Season 1 closes.
If one's lost loved one is the female version of Hitler/Goebbels/Pincohet/Mao/Genghis Khan/Stalin etc I would leave her right there. Yeah I am speaking to you Ms Burnham! The reason the Mirror U was classified, because of versions of people's lost loved ones being alive out there and that causing chaos, is hanging depressingly with me. Thinking of Jennifer Sisko. Thinking of our society today and how we'd react to something like this. How I'd react to it personally. It's kinda f***ed up to think about.
I think the comm officer sat at the table, maybe he likes him too!
I guess I might be wrong then and there just happened to be more female than male extras available during the scene. I only was able to spot the guy at the next table over and the fact he didn't move to get closer like the women I saw.Two guys sat with him as well.
Sometimes they follow Naval tradition and sometimes the writers ignore it for various reasons
Yeah I can't remember exactly but that may well be so.....I am most inclined to the explanation involving playground peer pressure - once Tilly did it, a bunch of people who previously felt they "should" ostracise him because their mates did, decided to give him a chance. I don't think we should overthink this.I guess I might be wrong then and there just happened to be more female than male extras available during the scene. She's gonna try the double cross but end up double crossed herself. Bye-bye Pippa.

Yeah I mentioned S31 merely as a group who'd be interested.... Not necessary plot point to my prediction. I take your point.Fandom's capacity for Section 31 theories and wishes seemingly knows absolutely no bounds or limits.
It's like the fly on the horse's ass that won't go away. It literally never stops.

A very old Shran will hook the Emperor up to the Make-Sovall-Happy Machine to find out what she knows. She probably doesn't like being happy any more than Sovall.Yeah I mentioned S31 merely as a group who'd be interested.... Not necessary plot point to my prediction. I take your point.
Section 31 would not openly display them selves with badges.Things like this give fuel to S31 theories. The writers brought this on themselves.

It's just that from a storytelling standpoint, you don't want to play every card in your deck, especially in the first season. Section 31 should be used pretty sparingly as a plot line (some would say never). I do agree with you, if they are accepted to be out there, then they are working on their usually devious solutions. Maybe that tribble wasn't aboard Disco by accident?Section 31 exists, we know that.
It stands to reason that with the Federation on the brink of losing the war they would seek to have some sort of involvement.

Anyone who thinks that is a hint towards S31 knows nothing about the organization.
