I see this is following the Trek standard of having suspiciously under-populated colony worlds.
This confirms it's Prime Universe.

And be mentored by Admiral Alexander MarcusHe could end up as the head of Starfleet. Aim high, Klingon spy!
You know, while there are some legitimate complaints about DSC, I really don't get the 'it's not Star Trek' brigade.
Optimism and brilliance in the face of adversity is shown in every episode, almost to the point of being offensive.
Better be some safeguards to stop Mirror Georgiou from turning on the Discovery crew. Because she will.
All of which are on show here.I would argue that "optimism and brilliance in the face of adversity" is but one of many Starfleet values and is certainly not its core value. Starfleet and Federation values also include tolerance, equality, freedom, self-determination, diversity, species rights, and scientific curiosity. So the fact that the crew of the Discovery remains optimistic in the midst of the Klingon War is not enough to say that it's Star Trek.
The last couple of episodes have been bad. The Voq/Ash thing is just dumb. So now sort-of human Voq who had his Voqness dialed down by Klingon lady for some stupid reason isn't even confined to quarters. And the "only the Emperor knows how to defeat the Klingons so let's have her lead the mission" thing is arguably worse. Hopefully this shit gets resolved in the finale and S2 can start with a somewhat clean slate.
My issue with that is HOW they plan to do that - by having the Discovery spore jump into a large underground cavern (possible because of all the Volcanoes on the planet for some reason) - and send drones up to get the info that need...(again
)
So, this episode.
....I liked the explanation for classifying the existence of the MU - it actually made a lot of sense. The theoretical existence of parallel worlds is presumably known about (it's known about now) but the idea that you can physically travel there would actually be a truly incredible bit of knowledge on par with first contact. Probably would need to be handled sensitively.
With one episode left and no mention of Chekov's Time Machine this week, it may be that we aren't getting a reset button after all. That cheers me somewhat, although it is going to cause canon arguments like crazy.
The fact it’s a Klingon war is enough to “say that it’s Star Trek”.the fact that the crew of the Discovery remains optimistic in the midst of the Klingon War is not enough to say that it's Star Trek
Makes me think they'll eventually handle the augment-Klingon thing. Maybe not this season, but they've got this.
I do agree that, instead of a canon checker in the writing room, they could definitely benefit from hiring a Da Fuq? checker.3. Sorry there is no sense of 'we are almost at defeat, we are desperate' with this war if they were stating millions of people have been lost on colony worlds or starbases and they said that a third of the Federation is under Klingon flag . Then I could understand the desperation but losing a few thousands of people under a Federation with a population of trillions sorry that is not 'an enormous loss of life'. (Earth lost more people under WW2 with a much smaller population)....poor writing. If you are so desperate that you are using the evil Pippa to help win your war, you need to have mega losses such as Vulcan/Andor /Tellar or even Earth is under invasion or something.
