It was my understanding that a Southern accent was issued during basic training at Lackland. That's funny because I'm retired AF and, in addition to being from Tennessee, I found lots of Southerners! And they had accents all over the board.

Quite likely, for the same reason that Marlena Moreau and Spock figured out that Kirk was fake. It's easier for a civilized person to pretend to be a barbarian, but eventually they are presented with a situation where they lack the intestinal fortitude to follow through where their barbaric mirror self wouldn't even break a sweat thinking about doing.Slave Saru knows that Burnham is a fake.
His ganglia would give her away almost immediately. He'd be confused about it at first, and he wouldn't know she was from an alternative universe, but the "new" Burnham would absolutely not register as a threat to him.Does he? Or could he simply suspect she's somehow been compromised by outside forces?
Not gonna lie, I hated Lorca at first because he was so unethical and creepy. Then someone posted that screenshot of the captain's override right before they ended up in the MU... If the Mirror Lorca theory turns out to be true, he's easily one of my all-time favorites. This show is so much better than I expected from the first few episodes.Lorca is becoming (if he already isn't) my favorite Trek character ever. He's like a perfect, fascinating, manipulative version of Mirror universe great captains. And Jason Isaacs is amazing in the role. Just that smirk at the end says a lot.
MU selective interbreeding/eugenics program? Mirror Sarek could secretly be a mole? He did betray Burnham in the Prime Universe to give his biological kid an advantage, could have done a similar thing on a larger scale in the MU.I'm curious to know how there even is a MU Spock if Vulcans are hated. Even if MU Amanda didn't hate Vulcans herself, how would she end up with Sarek?
SMG does come across as strong and charismatic in interviews.Sonequa Martin-Green wasn't horrible in this episode, which is a plus. But can you imagine if a strong, charismatic actress (who could actually act) was the lead? Like an actress on par with Isaacs? This show would be amazing.
His ganglia would give her away almost immediately.
It's possible, but from a writer's perspective it's too obvious of a plot hook for them to use and mine for drama and intrigue. Having the ganglia burned out goes nowhere interesting except another footnote about the brutality of the Mirror Universe. Having the ganglia reveal that "new" Burnham is not a threat has much more potential, and I suspect that is the direction the writers are going. It does make one wonder if Kelpien slaves in the MU have their threat ganglia removed or inhibited with medical procedures that render them more docile and easier to control by their owners.
Also, I continue to maintain that the Defiant is a red herring. That crew likely didn't know about the interphase, and got caught up in it, and certainly didn't know about Enterprise's phaser fire which "kicked the Defiant away" (or else prime Kirk would be in Defiant when it arrived in the Mirror Universe). All they would have is Defiant's sensor readings about receiving phaser fire during interphase, highly likely to be corrupted, and possibly destroyed by the Tholians.
The only way home is the spore drive. IMHO.
The After Trek preview touched on this, we got to see the Defiant report!if the sensors were still working at that point. Much of what the ship recorded could well have ended about the same time as the crew died/killed each other. Depends how much was set to auto-scan/record at the end. If things were just sitting idle, may not have captured much data that tells them anything but the Interphase situation that started the mess. Who knows if that is repeatable, and exactly how the Ent's phasers affected it vs. what may have happened without interference.
Almost definitely not repeatable, doubt that ship is going anywhere.
If makes one wonder though if he recognized "Saru" as a Kelpian name and was taken aback when Micheal said it.
it's the mirror universe, his ganglia probably fried
By the way, suggesting our reality, unlike MU, is "real" is so mirrorist/universist.Good observation.
Question: what do we know about Kelpian? Saru Says there are few of them in the RU, do we know why?

Possibly to get to the Emperor using her favourite and overthrow her?If Lorca is indeed MU Lorca, then why would he want to go back "home" to a place where he would probably be killed on the spot without the help of Burnham?
