They really aren't very Communistic, they at least made claims about doing it for the greater good. The Terran Empire is a bunch of jerks who would rather stab each other in the back that work together to achieve anything important. I'm pretty sure if the Vulcans hadn't landed those humans would have gone extinct due to fighting each other.I'm thinking succumbs to Communism - the Soviet Union won the Cold War in this universe.
The Soviet Union was xenophobic, treated its citizens from other SSRs as second class citizens, used slave labor, and committed genocide. I'm 1/4 Ukrainian and see the parallels.
High points for me: (trying not to be spoilery...)
I'm a newbie - trying to find out how to add a spoiler tag to a post. Can you help? This thread has a spoiler tag, you can be as spoilery as you want.
They didn't react to it though. They just acted like it was a normal Constitution class vessel. I'm assuming that's just what they look like now. If we ever see the Enterprise, it's going to look like that. It's still the same ship, it's just a visual update and not a sign of a different universe or timeline. It's just a show, don't worry about it too much.I think it's fairly clear that the Defiant has been modified with additional fortifications and weaponry to be more of a wartime vessel than the original was. I'd also say that certain mods were NECESSARY because, while this ship's tech is still completely relevant in the 2250's...it's actually been in service for over 100 years now (because of all that pesky time stuff). And given the campaigns and battles she has seen, Defiant likely needed to be repaired / overhauled / etc. plenty of times.
For all we know, the original nacelles were blown off in a previous battle, and they have been replaced.
After all, the Terran Empire under Empress Hoshi certainly wasn't out cataloguing gaseous anomalies with her.
They really aren't very Communistic, they at least made claims about doing it for the greater good.

Haha...! Peace!
No joke (I mean this sincerely)...but maybe try NOT doing this to yourself. You might find yourself much happier just letting it slide. There's enough $#!+ in the world to get pissed about and/or to spend energy on. Maybe you'd be happier avoiding stuff you can't stand...and even more happy not getting into it with a bunch of people you know you're only going to draw ire from.
I dunno...works for me. Everyone's different.
Thankee! No I meant the thread has spoiler in the title, you don't need to use tags.
But for future reference, the tag is [ spoiler ]
At a certain point authoritarian regimes begin to all behave more or less the same regardless of the ideals of the people who put them in power. There are only so many endgames for being in that kind of power, staying in power, and keeping the populace motivated enough. Without that iron will and competence you're left without all the incredients for a successful communist, fascist, imperial etc superstate and the resulting covfefe..Yes, but in this case it's "Hail the Empire" and not a variation of "Heil Hitler"
Exactly - IF you're into Star Trek, have seen all the previous episodes (and plot points) they refer to - you will 'get' a bit more than the 'average viewer who has never seen Star Trek before'. BUT, if you've never seen a single episode previously. the writers did a good job of laying out the plot - IE a Starfleet ship from their somehow crossed over to this mirror universe; and if our heroes find out how that happened maybe they can get back without the Spore Drive... - and said viewer can follow along and see what happens. If said viewer has a Star Trek versed friend who tells him something about the episode's connection to other Star Trek franchise episodes, said viewer might then have reason to seek out and watch one or more of these other episodes if he/she is so inclined - but again, the viewer gets enough info to follow and enjoy the events of these ST: D episodes without having to sit through any other episodes that 'tie in'.Agreed. This attitude that Star Trek is this incomprehensible tome of multilayered history and esoteric concepts that is completely inaccessible to a random audience is a bit silly. It also makes for a weak criticism. Hell, my first "Mirror Universe" episode was from Darkwing Duck when DW gets pulled into the "Negaverse". It is heavily implied that Negaduck is from this universe and is the Negaverse double of DW.
This was very easy to understand at the age of like, 8. I saw Mirror, Mirror years later. I watched In A Mirror, Darkly for the first time probably 5 years ago, having never seen The Tholian Web where I said, "Oh its a ship from TOS, probably some backstory to that...maybe its from a specific episode...but it doesn't seem to be important..."
Okay, I didn't say that exactly, but I do remember not being completely derailed and confused as to what was going on.
Scientifically speaking (In so much as science applies), the mirror universe is as old as our own.I've always liked to believe that the MU is what resulted from the timeline where Edith Keeler lived and allowed Nazi Germany to win WWII.
OK, when we are serious I will be too. Why am I watching it? Because I am hoping that the show will get better (for me). But maybe I should to as you say.
But...but... Where is "Infiltrate Terran Empire achievement" that Burnham just unlocked? What the Terran ribbons/medals mean from After Trek, some of them are from/inspired by ENT and TOS

Yes spotted that! Seemed a bit heavy handed I thought that! WHSpeaking of Saru, he seemed to sense something when Ash walked on the bridge. Of course the Vulcan ship attacked before he could do or say anything, but I'm thinking Saru's going to be the one that figures out Ash's secret.
