Look at Discovery she's a science vessel and is leading the way in the war effort. Scientists are front and centre when it comes to discovering the worst weapons in creation.

It is an unfortunate sad fact of life, that most major technological breakthroughs have come through weapons research. Not pretty, but a reality in the real world. Why shouldn't it be a reality in the Trek world as well?

As populations develop and become more affluent, generally the birthrate declines, in some cases it negative.
In fact if anything the real threat to a post-scarcity economy might now be overpopulation but underpopulation. If it were not for immigration several developed countries would already be in negative growth. Japan is about to run into that crisis, and China might soon as well. So yes overpopulation is a problem, though more on a regional level, but it appears to be one that self corrects as populations become more educated and able to use contraception (another product of science).

You aren't wrong from one society to another but earth's societies aren't so connected to share this event in a meaningful way.

The population of the earth continues to grow no matter which cultures wax and wane at this time or that time.

Like I said I'm not saying science is bad, just saying it isn't good either. It's societies of higher minded morals and values, not religious but higher minded, that make the world safer by picking and choosing when to apply and not apply what sciences.

I think the prevailing feeling is that Stamet's personality inconsistencies are actually intentional to the story arc...and that it's a result of his being exposed to the spore drive.

Where did you think Lorca committed betrayal?

Welcome to the board...!!!
He committed betrayal when he opted not to mount a rescue. It was a big betrayal - he let a woman he cared about and had intimate relations with - just be stuck captured by Klingons.... who had JUST captured him. That's cold blooded. Perhaps the writers want us to think "he has nothing else!" but I would think that PTSD would mean he raced to her rescue even more than he raced to Sarak's rescue on Burnham's behalf. To me - this is bigger than the writers cn easily write their way through.

That's kind of my point. Trek as Discovery is framing her is and has given us a world/universe view where science is a tool and scientists further war. I see no difference in a scientist not furthering moral values as anyone else.

He's done no such thing. Lorca asked Saru to wait for Starfleet to authorize a rescue mission. Lorca did not flat-out refuse to provide such a mission.

Cornwell is an Admiral. Lorca is a Captain. He could not possibly order her to do anything. Therefore, we can assume that Cornwell went on that mission because she chose to.

It was a situation that worked to his favor, and he knew it. Getting her on that shuttle was a golden opportunity, for him.

That too is true..BUT if only she had done her job and sorted him out the first time he needed a psych evaluation or I don't know, after he went gun happy on her when she was discovering his.. scars. I know it was subtle, that killing your crew thing and the phaser in the face thing.. but these things should have been clues.

I'm curious why the black Vulcan admiral is bald and doesn't have the same Moe from "Three Stooges" haircut that must be a ancient and worshiped hair style that they don't let go of for the sake of tradition.

Jason
You may recall that Tuvok didn't exactly have the traditional Vulcan bowl hair style either.
