If Captain Lorca goes by the end of the season maybe they will get John Sheridan as the new captain! Hey it worked for Babylon 5! LOL
No, even better:

Saru: "Welcome Captain, I look forward to working with with you. How do you wished to be addressed? Captain Garth, or Captain Izar?"

Garth: "I PREFER LORD....er, um I mean, yes, Captain Garth will be fine."

Saru: [Thinking as his Threat ganglia tingle wildly]: "Oh please...NOT AGAIN!"

I think he DID send her intentionally.

Sent her, yes. Lorca may well have felt that she really was the best to continue the peace talks. But he mostly wanted her off the ship. I do NOT believe he intentionally wanted her captured or killed. How was Lorca supposed to know what would happen?

Again, if Lorca wanted Cornwell dead, he would have sabotaged the shuttle. It would have had the added "benefit" of not leaving behind any evidence.

However, it gets some play here actually as it's clear Starfleet is considered a "step down" for most Vulcans.

And yet, there's Terral... plus the all-Vulcan-crewed USS Intrepid...

He did become a bad guy in the last episode already. But I really don't think he intentionally send Cornwell to be captured. He, just like everybody else was surprised by the Klingons' sudden but inevitable betrayal. If anything, he came across much more likeable here than ever before, a damaged man who is trying to act tough to conceal how fucked up he really is, rather than the edgy badass jerk he was portrayed as in the previous episodes.
He wasn't in a hurry to save her either.

Tell me five shows that are so much better than Discovery that you are watching right now?

I don't think it's fair to compare Discovery to the other Star Trek we love, because those are among the best sci-fi shows ever. Even if Discovery turned out the be my least favorite Star Trek show, it could still be among my top 15 favorite TV show ever. So I'm wondering what else do you watch that is so much greater than Discovery at the moment? I'm watching Got, The Orville, sometimes Marvels, etc, but then after a few shows I begin to struggle to find better shows. So, I'm wondering what Sci-fi TV shows (good luck!!) or what TV shows do you watch at the moment that are so much better than Discovery?
Off the top of my head:
Mr Robot
The Expanse
Man in the High Castle
Better Call Saul
Game of Thrones
House of Cards
Rectify
Narcos

There are many more.

When I said this day and age, I'm talking about the past 10 years so, which IMO is a new golden age of television. The shows listed above are just some of the active ones. I could start listing off Breaking Bad and others that have ended but are contemporary shows that have come out in the past 10 years.

STD's writing can't hold a candle to the well written dramas of today. Hopefully they turn things around.

So we think. But this time (unlike with Sarek) they know exactly where she is being held, and that she's under heavy guard by the Klingons. If Discovery goes in with guns blazing, there's the chance the ship could be captured and its technology taken.

If Lorca is ordered by Starfleet to rescue Cornwell, and refuses the order, that's where we can start really worrying.

Also not buying the Vulcans being such dicks. Logic and IDIC don't support being racist assholes. Yes, I know it was done in other Treks, but I didn't like it any better there, especially in DS9 and then ENT. There's no logic in judging other races based on Vulcan norms. Basically, I'm not seeing much difference between them and Romulans other than the mind meld/pon farr stuff and the emphasis on logic.

Nope, never watched them. No idea why I would want to watch them. ;)
Vulcans started being dicks with Spock's first scene in WNMHGB. And they've always judged human and other non-Vulcans by Vulcan standards.

Nice list of shows but only The Expanse is a sci-fi drama. The others are just ordinary dramas (I'm not sure abotu mr. Robot). I only agree with you with Game of Thrones and it's not sci-fi either. I never saw Mr. Robot, Man in Castle, Rectify and Narcos, i'm not so much into ordinary non sci-fi drama but I didn't like and don't watch anymore The Expanse, House of cards. On the other hand I think The Americans is great, possibly as good as any Star Trek but with less replay values.

The appreciation of ordinary drama is more a personal thing. There's no topicality, sci-fi/what if imagination or futuristic vision in them. In a certain way it can have a broader appeal (beside sci-fi blockbuster summer movies which are usually all actions, little plot) but it doesn't have anything I love about sci-fi in them (topicality, sci-fi/what if mystery and imagination, adventure, exploration of humanity and integration of new technologies, visions about the future, etc). It takes great writers, inspired writers, who have things to say about our current societies, the future, science and technology and humanity to write series like Doctor Who, Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager) and Stargate. We must appreciate Sci-fi as not just typical tv drama and soap opera.

It took waiting until today, but I finally got to see "Lethe" (S01E06). Initially, I was happy to see the episode show up at around 8:08 last evening, but moments into it, the picture blanked and the stream buffered. If it was just going to be that one time, it would have been OK - but it wasn't. It happened again, and again, until it sort of got stuck in a "Loading" mode.

I thought perhaps I was too early in trying to stream it, and thought that restarting it might be a good idea. But it didn't help. It still stuttered and died. Playing with starting and restarting for about a half hour yielded nothing any better, but I was now convinced of two things: I wouldn't be watching it that evening, and the episode looked VERY worth watching.

So today around noon, I sat down to try again, and this time it performed flawlessly as did all of the prior episodes through multiple rewatches. "Lethe" was a very impressive episode. I continue to marvel at how good this show looks, and I'm enjoying how various factors are pulling together to create a fascinating look at this period in the Trek timeline.

Mia Kershner was inspired casting as Amanda - she looked very much like a younger Jane Wyatt. Like everyone else, I'm still on edge wondering about Lorca and Tyler and Stamets and how they may or may not fit in the mirror universe. But I'm also happy that we don't yet have all of the answers. It makes the ride in getting there more enjoyable.

Hopefully the technical glitches were just that - glitches, and they won't be repeated. I know others have complained about the stream's unreliability, but last night was the only time I experienced anything like that. It's mostly worked flawlessly for me.

Liked it. This one felt more episodic than the others, but that okay. Lots of name dropping. Spock, Enterprise.

Not sure what that Nebula was made of though.

More hints at the Mirrorverse, and wondering if there is more to the destruction of the Buran. Not keen on mirror episodes, but my intrigue is growing.

I love that it could be taken either way.

If I had been chewed out by a superior for taking matters into my own hands, then informed that because of my actions I was going to lose my command I would have asked for orders as well.

As someone has already said we only need to worry if Lorca refuses the order, which I doubt he will.

At the very least the Admiral will have a much better understanding of Klingon methods and the reasons for Lorca's state if she is rescued and we see her again, some have to learn the hard way and I am expecting a large helping of humble pie from her.

He wasn't and that is the open ended part. Was it because he didn't want her to get saved, or because he actually had listened her and tried not to be such a loose cannon?
What I like about this is that the writers made this ambiguity part of the show by having Saru directly talking about it with Lorca. One my fav part of the episode. Then they end the episode showing the phaser on his belt (recalling what happened earlier) in an ominous way. Beautiful.

Enjoyed it! But jumping jackrabbits that first mind meld scene was cheesy! How weird does Burnham run btw? Still having problems hearing/discerning some of the dialogue but that maybe due to my fellow Brits questionable Yank accents! I'm getting a serious 'Caine Mutiny' vibe from Lorca's constant cracking of the fortune cookies or whatever they are! I presumed that Lorca has the pistol in his belt because he wasn't prepared to have his command taken from him and thought the knock at the door might have been from the Admiral's people? Still think Lorca is an unknowing Klingon....maybe!

How did Lorca send Cornwell on the mission? She outranks him. It's Starfleet's and her decision to make. I think he knew she'd want to step in, though, to complete Ambassador Sarek's mission, because achieving peace is worth the risk. I'm not ready to assume he deliberately tried to send her into a trap/harm's way in order to keep Discovery. Then again, it would fit with how unstable he is becoming; he looked like he was at an emotional breaking point when she left him in his bedroom.
