Maybe I'm confusing the books and the show but shouldn't Lightbringer already be a relic at this point? Didn't Stannis claim to wield it?

Stannis did claim to wield it, but that believe was mistaken and was pretty evident in the books. The books did seem to indicated that it was a relic and possibly some other sword, though there was nothing definitive.

Haven't read the books for a while though so I could be totally off base.

He claimed it but apparently in the books (can't remember if it was also a point in the show) Stannis' sword bore nearly all of the hallmarks of it (in flames, glittering with various colors) but it didn't radiate heat.. a fact Maester Amon notices when he asks Sam about it indicating it is a fake to just give out the illusion.

Also to forge Lightbringer isn't it necessary to kill a living being and someone close to you? According to the Legend Azor Ahai had to kill his own wife to finally forge Lightbringer after several failed attempts so i guess a White Walker won't be enough.

If that makes it into the show and one of the main characters is killed to forge it expect the internet to explode

I thought that the show might get around the Lightbringer story in one of two ways

1) just not have Lightbringer at all in the end
2) have Dawn be Lightbringer. We saw Ned lean Dawn up again the bed when he went to Lyanna so we know he picked it up. In the show it is never said he returned it to the Dayne family so maybe Ned kept it. Maybe it is in the crypts at Winterfell. It is not a Valyrian sword, it is more unique than that, forged from a meteorite that fell to Earth.

But maybe Gendry will forge Lightbringer and put it through Arya's heart

I got a kick out of a scene in the new movie Logan Lucky in which a prison warden has to explain to rioting inmates why the final two books aren't available (despite prior deadlines announced by the author and their hearing details about later plotlines--apparently via the tv show--from visiting inmates).

This reminds me of a friend of mine when another spoiled the ending of the 6th Harry Potter book that has Dumbledore killed by Snape. I've never seen her truly angry but at this point she was crying bloody murder.. she went ballistic on the guy and what made it worse was him just shrugging it off because he doesn't care about spoilers. By that point all of us jumped on him

I was happy about the 2 leaks this season.. this week long waiting is hell so it was a treat but i can also understand those who can't see it or or want to wait until the regular release. Intentionally spoiling something is just a dick move.

Holy fuck, that was truly a song of ice and fire.

Rest in peace, Viserion.

But even worse, our nightmares have finally come true: A zombie dragon. This is what Melisandre meant when she said the night is dark and full of terrors! Everyone is so fucked now. Also, I think we finally know how the Wall is going to come crashing down and it'll be far glorious than a magic horn.

And yet, for all of the intensity of the battle beyond the Wall with zombie polar bears and masses of ice zombies and dragons to the rescue and a dragon fallen, I actually found my stomach in more knots during that final scene between Sansa and Arya. I was genuinely worried that Arya was going to kill her sister and slice off her face right there and then. The creep factor was raised in a way that even Littlefinger would be envious.

Lest I forgot, farewell, Thoros of Myr. Leonardo di Caprio has nothing on you. I would say I was shocked only one of the Gang of Seven died if it hadn't been for the bigger loss.

Lastly, Jon Snow is an idiot. Not just because he didn't just get on Drogon, but also because he didn't arm all of his men with dragonglass! It seemed only Jorah had a dagger. Seriously, what the fuck?

I'm also disappointed the way the show brought back Benjen only to quickly dispose of him for good. He could have easily gotten back on the horse and escape together. I'm sure he'll have a better fate in the books (whether or not he's actually Coldhands).

That was an excellent episode. I thought Beric might die but he didn't. Goodbye Thoros of Myr. All the 'redshirts' died of course.

Gendry should be a marathon runner after that run. I hope he gets his hammer back.

Sad about the poor dragon - I presume it was Viserion, I am not very good at telling the dragons apart.

Quite a bit of friction at Winterfell. Brienne and Pod heading south. I hope Brienne meets Jaime again, and Tyrion has a reunion with Pod.

I enjoyed this episode, but it was completely ridiculous that Dany was able to fly out fast enough to save the day. Also, I agree with the above that they should have had more dragonglass and that Benjen could have easily gotten on the horse with Jon.

I wonder if Sam will have any reaction when he finds out his family's fate? Also, does this make him Lord of House Tarley?

Arya is seriously creepy and not entirely rational right now. Hopefully something happens to redirect her anger to the right people.

I wonder if Dany will ever find out Jon is her cousin. Speaking of Dany, she has really got to stop making veiled threats to Tyrion whenever he suggests anything other than the violent decimation of all things Lannister.

I don't think it's even worth saying anything more about time and space and distance at this point because holy hell. Gendry as the Flash and supersonic dragons.

Also, it's now been 4 episodes since we've seen Euron's fleet or Yara at all, and Theon only had a tiny bit part since then. I know we're supposed to be focusing more on the Starks and Daeny and all that jazz, but I was really interested in that entire plotline after the buildup last season. Definitely marks down for that this season, could've easily had a couple more episodes with their scenes.

But with that said, man... wow. Just wow. Lots of great moments, some fun bonding between people, good scenes beyond the wall. What an episode and what an ending especially. Not just the dragon but Arya and Sansa. Really though, wtf Arya?

I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but after Game of Thrones ends, we simply must The Hound and Tormund Comedy Hour. It would along nicely with The Lyanna Mormont Chronicles and The Adventures of Brienne and Tormund as potential spin-offs.

Side note.. how cool was it to see them both ignite their swords at the same time? That's on the same level as the first time anyone has seen a lightsaber being activated

I certainly had a big fat grin on my face after that happened, especially considering how casually it happened.

Concerning Arya and Sansa.. well, Littlefinger did it again and drove a huge wedge into what is supposed to be a bond. Sansa might think of herself as a good leader and has ambitions on lordship when in fact she has been played by Baelish from the start. The Vale wouldn't have helped if he didn't arrange for the imbecile child to become king and exert influence over him. Littlefinger is the true master of the long game and neither Arya nor Sansa can hold a candle to him.

As much as I enjoyed the intensity of their final scene, I am disappointed that my theory that Arya was playing dumb for Littlefinger's benefit was wrong. Unless she's still playing a long con (which I doubt), it seems rather foolish of Arya not to have been spying on Littlefinger without a face mask on. That foolish is on the same level as Jon's failure to arm the Gang of Seven and Redshirts with dragonglass.

So what do people think about the zombie dragon, will it breathe fire or ice? I wonder if the Night King will think tactically, send it to King's Landing to attack and then all the people will assume it's Dany's doing, and her plans to get the people of Westeros behind her will go down the drain.
...or he just uses it to smash the wall down and let the dead come pouring through.

Honestly, I initially only thought the zombie dragon would breath fire until I saw posts here suggesting otherwise. I could see it going either way: It breaths fire and melts the Wall or it release icy breathe that solidifies on contact and builds a large heap on both sides of the Wall to allow the White Walkers and wights to climb over it.

Honestly, I think you may be one of the few people who feel that way. Their chapters in A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons bored the hell out of me and I was thrilled when I thought the show as going to skip over them when it caught up with everything else around them (or rewritten in the case of Dorne). I like Theon and Yara, but I couldn't give two shits about Euron and that was before he showed up all cocky as fuck on the show.

Jon is Dany's nephew not cousin. He is the son of Dany's brother.

I think that Gendry might be the person who can save/reach Arya. They had quite a positive friendship when they were together.

And though the show overlooks it Gendry is related to Jon and Dany (Dany's second cousin, once removed and Jon's third cousin).

Ah, that's a good idea. We didn't see where he was heading after everyone returned to Eastwatch. It's a pity he never mentioned to Jon that he traveled with Arya.
