Trailer 3 Discussion Thread

Not to shit too much on the American rating system, or old conservative white dudes in backrooms deciding what's morally "appropriate", but the producers told us Discovery won't feature much more sex, violence or cursing than previous Trek shows. But there's a gay couple. So I expected nothing short of the maximum rating...
I don't really get why most of the shows I listed are MA anyways, I swear I've seen more graphic stuff on 14 rated shows on the networks.

Thought this was the weakest of the trailers. Something about the voice overs didn't seem right.

Saw a lot of negativity in the Youtube comments to the trailer, which is par for the course. Though I did get a laugh out of someone calling the show "Star Trek: Darkness, No Parents".

Looks awesome - and it convinced a colleague to give it a go!

Talked with a friend about it, love the fact a guy from Liverpool, who has a relatively obvious North England accent is playing a Starfleet Captain with a traditionally Spanish name with an American accent that sounds like it's from the Southern states (to our untrained ear, it sounded a little like Tucker).

Just in tradition with this bald British guy, playing a French captain. What was his name again? :D

I took @tribbleorlfl 's post to mean that even though there won't be explicit steamy gay sex, just the open existence of such a relationship would be enough for squeamish CBS to give it an MA.

Or not.
That's possible. Both options are equally disturbing to me. I guess I just have a problem with television rating systems in general. Why would the mere existence of a same-sex relationship mean a higher rating? Weird.

So, another bad trailer, but not significantly worse then the last one. Outside of the reveal of the show being apparently rated MA, but while that is awful at this point it would be really hard for the show to get worse so its hard to get angry at the MA rating with the show already being trash. Just more garbage to add to the pile.

That rating is probably probably related to the Klingons

Yeah right, because we all know a gay couple means lots of steamy gay sex.

Could just be the mere existence of gay men in space. Certain backwards parts/people of the US seem to find it a horrifying subject.

Or maybe she fills the role of both, science officer and first officer, just like her stepbrother.

That thought crossed my mind as well, but I'm assuming (hopefully safely) that the first officer position won't be a double hat scenario. plus she's all gold in the promo's which seems an odd choice to make to switch.

Plus it fits the hints so far of her redeeming herself. Which could make a great story.

While the US system can be weird, I'll grant, I have a feeling that it has more to do with nudity than anything else.

As for he trailer, it was ok. Pretty standard trailer fair, and since I'm already watching it, nothing's really changed.
