Which are indicative of...nothing significant. Self-selecting "comments" on websites have little value in gauging anything useful. CBS will be more interested in the number of viewers they get for the show than anything revealed by "YouTube comments".
Nothing is "official" about YouTube likes and dislikes - a bunch of self-selected crybabies with a heavy dollop of bigotry (no exaggeration, read the comments). You couldn't come up with a less persuasive source .
Maybe. But, Discovery isn't going to be on TV in the US outside of its pilot and, well, let's just say that someone can hate watch without supporting the show. Actively telling the group of people who collectively are the only reason the show has lasted 50 years that their opinions are worthless is just a bad idea. Not that some fans don't have stupid ideas, but he's not talking about any specific school of thought. He's saying that no fan opinion matters, because they'll still watch. To be fair that is tone of the entire show (along with generally disliking its own subject matter), but he went beyond that and just starting talking shit. So, again, I'm done with him. he's gone from being one of the three "pros" about the show to being one of the very, very many "cons".
Well to be fair the actor opened the door by referring to fans. I don't know how CBS goes about things, ratings and revenue no doubt.
He (the actor) must be getting some kind of feedback to be doing some 'gauging' of his own. If his sources (and we don't know maybe he has been surfing the Net and Youtube) are indicative of nothing, then why is he looking forward to more reaction? Maybe he's reading this thread?? Lol. This is hardly anything revolutionary for any performing artist. Generally, they are much more interested in promoting their "new stuff" than "revisiting the classics" (until they run out of "new stuff" and just go on tour, in the case of old-timer rock bands). No one wants to be tied down by previous iterations and some, like Issacs, choose to nip the complainers (no need to do a survey--there will be complainers) in the bud, so to speak. Besides, riling up "the fans" (actually, a rather small subset of fans) gets people talking about the show. It's not like he told them all to fuck off and die, or that all that came before was utter shit. He simply made it clear a new take is on the horizon. If it turns out to be total crap and his performance is horrible--then, by all means, let's unleash the vitriol. Oh I agree he seems to be getting in first and wanting Discovery talked about. It's kind of ironic though because whether we agree to the amount, let alone 'location' of these fans, it will be predominately those same fans he's going to validate and reference. I doubt his comments are going to filter through to or make a significant difference to newbies. The show will have to do that.
If I had to guess, episode 14. The second to last episode of the season. Just enough time to transition Michael Burnham to Captain for season two.

A show made based on what the hard core fans want would be pretty bad and would only appeal to the hard core fans. You cannot do that.
Fans will still watch and even if they watch just to bitch about how the angle of a symbol on a tunic isn't right, they will still watch and they will still talk about the show and people talking about your show is always a good thing.
You cannot make a star trek show for the 1960s or even 1990s trek fan any more so then BSG could make a 2005 series just like the 1970s series. It has to change and evolve.
Which was his point. a lot of the hard core fans will still subscribe and still watch and then still talk about the show even if bitching about the wrong emblem being on a uniform. But if they are watching and talking does it matter?
