USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Other then the nacelles, the TMP Connie is basically the same shape.

It is the 'texture' of the ship that gives most of the detail.

Oh no, they changed the Necelles, pylons, secondary hull, the dish, the neck and the saucer. Its not anywhere near tge same design wise.

I'm on both sides of the argument here. I don't agree the TOS Connie looks primitive, but I also agree they need to update the design so it fits with the rest of the show's aesthetic.

I hate to bring up Axenar, but I think the Ares is a perfect example of a TOS Style design that could work on modern TV.

Or the KT ships they 'TOS'afied for the show.

No it isn't. It is someone changing something that is iconic to their personal taste.

No, that is making it fit. What you want is adding a model T as just a 10 year old car in a 1960s era show. This is how glaring the design issues are.

Man, they redesign the ship from the ground up for TMP because od the very issues I am talking about. It is no longer the 1960s

It is no longer the 1960s

Holy shit, Batman! Are you kidding me?!?

But if you create a show that is in-continuity with a 1960's show, you better show that it connects somehow or the very people they are aiming it at, may end up rejecting it.

Existing Star Trek fans are not the only people they're aiming it at.

They are pushing this very hard at the fan crowd. They have to. Because people watching Game of Thrones will laugh at the PG rated Game of Klingons.

At the (writers?) panel in Vegas they said they were also going for people who were not Star Trek fans already.

Compare the TMP version to the TOS version. Really look at the shapes, not the texture. Now go look at the NX. Ignore texture and look at the forms. You can see TMP design forms in the NX.

I do not hate the TOS ship, in many ways its nice. But it was a single design that trek left behind. They embraced the TMP styling and once ENT went with rhat style, it left no where for the TOS style.

If you look at the Walker and the Discovery, we are seeing an advancement of the NX and ENT styling and form shapes. The walker perdates the Connie, the Discovery is likeily 10 years newer.

Do you honestly think the design of the TOS connie fits between those two?

BTW, if the intent is that Shenzhou is some old rustbucket and Discovery is the new, hot übership, then they royally fucked up. Shenzhou looks way more advanced than Discovery.

Yeah, the nacelle support struts. The nacelles and sensor dome are straight out of TOS. The inverted saucer comes from the Excelsior. It is a mismash of components from various Trek ships.

They said the Discovery is newer then the Shenzhou in EW.

That is why the transporter looks so different between the two.

Would something like this be too much of a change?
