In order for star trek to be successful it needs to be intense.
Well, George Lucas isn't busy. The actors need to be 'Faster, more intense'.
I'm really trying to figure out the predictions that are going around. Seriously, is there some money in predicting DSC's failure that I'm not aware of?All the people saying DSC is shit on the basis of the trailers are going to have a large plate of crow to dine on if the show ends up being amazing.

*sighs*All for the glory of being right (and saying I told you so). Being a fan means being petty.
The more I read and see of STD the more I look at this thread and think: When Discovery is a bust...
And I feel the exact opposite.........we will find out shortly. The more I read and see of STD the more I look at this thread and think: When Discovery is a bust...
You folks who are cheering on the failure of Discovery seem to think that companies like CBS are making Star Trek for the good will of the fans and a service to the community.*clicks heals three times*
Please, make Discovery a bust.
Please, make Discovery a bust.
What's after Discovery? Let's replace Enterprise, then replace the three JJ films, then replace Discovery.
You want it to fail, good. Just be happy with your DVDs and books. Because that will be the only Star Trek you'll end up seeing if Discovery fails.
As long as CBS can make money off DVD sales, streaming, merchandising, licensing the name to Paramount for the movies, etc. that won't be happening any time soon.I already have been, considering it's been 15 years since the last new Star Trek production.
I'm just hoping it fails so the franchise will be devalued. Then maybe a company that actually cares about Star Trek will buy it.
Why would a company that cares buy a "devalued" product? That makes zero sense.I already have been, considering it's been 15 years since the last new Star Trek production.

Some folks like physical media..............#oldhabitsHasn't CBS already recouped their costs of making the series in the deal they did with Netflix? Also as I understand it there isn't an abundance of merchandise in the pipework for anything STD, definitely no distinct toy line (not until Spring of 2018 by which time companies will see if its a success or not so may/may not go through with it if it is a bust). As for DVD sales, why would you buy them if the show will be available on the likes of Netflix for the foreseeable future? I know I wouldn't buy the boxsets if I can watch them on a service I already pay for.

I think CBS understands the value of Star Trek right now. I may not agree with all of their decisions, but its their product, and I doubt they would sell it off, even if they thought it was "devalued."A company that thinks they can make it more valuable than the current owners.
Yup---they would just hold on to it until it was valuable again.I think CBS understands the value of Star Trek right now. I may not agree with all of their decisions, but its their product, and I doubt they would sell it off, even if they thought it was "devalued."

Star Trek has died and come back more times than Jean Grey at this point. Fans are taking it for granted.
Personally, I hope it dies and stays dead this time.
Exactly. They know the value of this brand, and are cautious in their expansion of it. This could signal more faith in the brand and a willingness to broaden out.Yup---they would just hold on to it until it was valuable again.
