Spoilers Game of Thrones - Season 7

If I recall correctly we have only seen one of the Iron Islands in the show - Pyke. Maybe some of the other islands are covered in trees?

As for the time that passed between to two battles at sea. It must have been some time as Bran and Meera covered the 600 miles from Castle Black to Winterfell and Olenna made it from Dragonstone to Highgarden. Plus Grey Worm himself had the time to sail from Dragonstone to Casterly Rock.

Yeah, I think this is the way we have to look at it.

I see Bran is doing the "I'm a mystical character now so I don't have to talk to you normal humans in normal human way."

That sort of shtick works when the character's supposed to be removed from normal human contact for decades/centuries/millennia... but was a bit weird and out of the blue considering he managed to form complete sentences and not be a creepy bugger right up until last week.

As it happens, I'm right in the middle of a rewatch of the show (haven't seen most episodes since they first aired) and one of the things I'm noticing watching episodes back-to-back instead of week-to-week is just how much time can pass in a single episode.

I think the first few episodes alone covered at least four or five months. Probably more if you include the prologue.

I think it's more a case of emotional detachment. If he's seeing everywhere all the time then focusing on the here and now is going to be a bit difficult. If he seems a bit distant, it's because he quite literally is.

Speaking of Olenna, how did she even get to Highgarden? King's Landing and the Crownlands are controlled by Cersei obviously, and likely the Stormlands. Going down through Dorne would be even longer.

One thing that's different here from the previous battle-heavy episodes (Blackwater, Hardhome, Bastards) is they each had numerous known characters involved, whereas these two two battles only had Grey Worm in one and Jaime, Bronn, Randall and Olenna (who didn't fight) in the other. Hell, I doubt Jaime, Bronn and Randall did much fighting of their own considering their position in the ranks (well, maybe Bronn). I agree it leaves a strange sour taste in the mouth, but considering how it looks in the larger picture, it's not so surprising.

True. But you know, that could have easily been avoided by not having the show waste two seasons on the worthless Sparrow plotline and given us Loras and Mace and Margaery as well at Highgarden, plus Kevan Lannister with Jamie, Bronn, and Randall instead of blowing them up if they knew this is where they were going. :sigh:

Well, we didn't actually see Euron at Casterly Rock. It's fairly likely that he sent a large portion of his fleet directly there while he took out Yara's fleet and headed back to King's Landing.

It's been mentioned by others, but I'd be pretty shocked if that giant flagship wasn't supposed to be Euron's. I mean, I'll retract that particular complaint if I'm wrong lol.

One thing I'm really loving about this season are callbacks to previous seasons. The Jon/Tyrion stuff, Oleanna referring to Joffrey's death, references to Robb's battles against the Lannisters and Robert sending assassins after Dany.

Note that we didn't see Olenna die.

Why did Jamie pour two glasses if he only needed one?
I did wonder for a seconded if she had poisoned the wine to take Jamie with her.
But I guess after she confessed to murdering his son he did not feel like drinking with her.

I didn't see it as Bran feeling he was above mere mortals, so much as he was disinterested in anything except stopping the Night King.

Half expected Arya and Bran to arrive at Winterfell at the same time.

Another generally excellent episode, but Olenna stole the show (as she was want to do throughout her tenure)...

Hugo - drop that mic M'Lady

We can never be quite certain now that a character we see isn't Arya wearing their face so I guess she could turn up at Winterfell or Dragonstone as Olenna or a dead sand snake etc. That might make Jamie or Euron seem traiterous to Cersei. Of course, the magical unseen teleporter would be getting a lot of use.

Euron's fleet sure get around alot. He destoryed two fleets, each of them on either side of Westeros. Looking at the map, his fleet moved fast.

Why are all of these castles being shown as lone fortresses surrounded by bare grasslands? These are not only the seat of power in their region but capitol cities, and on a continent prone to famine every acre of arable land should be in use.

Now, this was definitely more like it after the IMO mediocre first 2 episodes.

Dany and Jon: loved their meeting, Ser Davos, Tyrion... well, everything. I'm looking forward to how this is going to play out now that Dany has lost all her allies in Westeros. But Ser Jorah can now return to "his queen"...

Sansa and Bran: Well, that was just creepy.

Cersei cements her cruelty, and Euron... urgh, but he's matching her in that regard step by step. But he really has quite the magical fleet of ships, turning up whereever you need them.

Jaime: the scene with Olenna was quite something. I hope he'll see through Cersei pretty quickly, especially now that he knows that Tyrion didn't kill Joffrey. I'm looking forward to the moment where he has to choose between his siblings.

I'm glad we didn't get to see too much of the battles, because, quite frankly, they do little to actually advance the plot but take time away from the politicking, intrigues and character-work. Some battles had to be shown, like the one beyond the wall in season 5 or the Battle of the Bastards (even though I think it didn't need to take the whole episode), but otherwise less is more.

I'm not so sure about the timeline. Euron's fleet crosses distances in an instance, as does the Lannisters' army. But Arya doesn't manage to get from halfway between King's Landing and Winterfell to Winterfell? What road is she taking?

The Inn at the Crossroads is about 1500 miles from Winterfell and Arya is travelling in wintery weather all the way. It would probably take her a month to manage that distance.

The distance between Casterly Rock and Highgarden is about 700 miles.

I think there are weeks and weeks of traveling which we are just not shown, the only problematic thing with the timeline: Cersei's hair. Or perhaps she found that she likes it short.

Clearly the Westeros Gentry are all NIMBY's when it comes to their subjects!

Time and distance are only issues if people choose to make them so.
Yeah, speed of plot and all. Anyways, Cersie and Euron appear to be playing at a different level to Dany, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him split his fleet to keep on hounding her forces.

I look at this show like The Empire Strikes Back. You either accept that the timelines don't fully match, suspend your disbelief accordingly and just enjoy the plot as presented... or you drown in the minutiae and miss the fun.

Oh, wait, where am I again?

Hugo - got turned around a bit there

It's been explicitly said that things are not happening in-universe exactly when we as an audience see them happen, so it's not about "suspending disbelief"; it's about not obsessing over things that aren't happening anyway (magic travel/unrealistic time compression) and creating problems that don't actually exist.
