Spoilers Game of Thrones - Season 7

So I haven't seen this discussed anywhere... (minor spoiler from next episode preview)

There's a shot of a wolf followed by a shot of a startled Arya. NYMERIA?!?!?!

Unless it's Bran's Summer, which looks very similar, IIRC. Jon's Ghost is too white, Rob's Grey Wind, Rickon's Shaggy Dog and Sansa's Lady are all dead. So yeah, it's either Summer or Nymeria.

Damnit, I wish I hadn't clicked on that spoiler tag. I haven't watched the promo, so I would've been completely unspoiled. I can't wait for this long overdue happy reunion!

Some thoughts--

The open with Arya was extremely predictable. I don't think it fooled anyone. And while I do think 99 percent of the audience knew it was Arya within 10 seconds, I would say not one of those people cared. We all saw it coming, and we all loved every second of it.

Other than that, very little actually happened. It was all set up. But that's fine, since it's a premiere.

It seems clear that Daenerys and Jon Snow are finally going to meet.

It will be interesting how that goes down. Will Daenerys insist that Snow "bend the knee?" Or will she cede the North to the Starks and form an alliance instead? Will they try to seal the alliance with a marriage, not knowing that they are aunt and nephew? Will Bran fill them in?

I also think that they are setting up Arya to die.

Things are too good for her. Having her go after Cersei makes me think she will somehow get thwarted. Arya's revenge was the feel good moment. It was one of those instances where the good guys win.

Usually, that's followed by a horrible blow to the good guys. See Oberyn Martel.

He declared that he'd literally burn down the world for her LAST season (Season 6), so Brienne had less of an effect on him than fans want to believe, at least in the TV series.
The trick is to see where the character arc is heading, not where it is right now. Jaime has undergone many changes and a lot of growth. He's not the same character he was. He's also learning new things about Cersei. It's clear that there is trouble brewing between them. Looking forward, it seems likely that there will be outright conflict. Cersei would be willing to destroy the city and Jaime will be willing to kill her to save it. I suspect Arya will be involved as well perhaps even working together.

This is the final stretch, so the good guys win ratio should start increasing ;)
Not necessarily - when the show is ending and has nothing to lose for additional narrative, that's sometimes when the good-guy body count starts to rise to purchase some inexpensive high drama. Book & Wash in Serenity, for example. Yeah, I know that was a film, but it was a direct continuation of Firefly with not much hope of going any further without a decades-later reboot.

Note that I use "inexpensive" for Game of Thrones and Serenity. I would use the word "cheap" for Star Trek Enterprise, which needlessly killed Trip Tucker for no real purpose.

I wouldn't be surprised if almost all the good guys were killed or corrupted by the end. I expect many will die in the process of winning.

I thought the part at the start was a flashback at first before I realized it was Arya.

Will be interesting to see the impact of Bran being back in the picture at Winterfell.

Summer is dead too, only living wolves are Ghost and Nymeria.

So, Sam said Stannis already told him about the dragonglass on Dragonstone. But he acted really excited about it when he saw it in that book and sent a raven to Jon. So he just never mentioned it to Jon when Stannis told him? He thought Stannis was lying for some reason? He just forgot about it?

Sam's an idiot I guess.

SO! Interesting you bring this up. There is a potential clue to...well, something... that some people have picked up on.
It starts with Littlefinger's dagger:

...that found its way into the hands of the assassin that almost killed Bran, that returned to its owner and was held at Ned Stark's neck prior to his beheading:

...that appeared in one of Sam's books (probably because Valyrian steel is damaging to white walkers):

...that winds up on Arya's sword belt (NOT Needle) on a promotional image for a magazine cover!

So...WTF?!?!

Why is this one particular blade so important?

Well, for one thing, it's one of the few remaining blades made with Valyrian steel.

My question is, assuming the last supposition is true, how did Arya get hold of it? Where did we see it last?

The last time I think we actually saw it was his conversation with Varys when he was holding it (shown in the image in my previous post).

Knowing Littlefinger, he probably still has it on him. He's never been stupid - he knows the white walkers are real and that Valyrian steel is one of their few banes.

How does Arya get it? Unless it was a horrible mistake made by the costume manager prior to shooting that cover (and I can't imagine Maisie Williams not saying, "hey, that's not Needle!"), there would necessarily be a reason that she has it. Something must happen between now and the end of the season where she finds out that Littlefinger was responsible for betraying Ned and, consequently, added him as a newcomer to her "prayer list". Seeing as that list is getting shorter by every episode, she's gonna need something to do... :)
