The negative reaction to showing weapons from a science fiction action series is ... disturbing.
Better accuracy, longer range, better cooling, longer power duration are some of the advantages I see. I can imagine a Type II quickly overheating in heavy use ... and then draining its power cells after a few high-intensity shots. It's cool. Prefer the hand phaser but then, FC aside I've generally not been that impressed with phaser rifle props. I also struggle to see the need for rifles when your sidearm can disintegrate someone.
It's biggerer. You can disintegrate more, for longer, maybe quicker. It's cool. Prefer the hand phaser but then, FC aside I've generally not been that impressed with phaser rifle props. I also struggle to see the need for rifles when your sidearm can disintegrate someone.
Sorry ... I edited to add [in that Twitter thread] and you saw my post before the edit.We have had negatives? I know there are always some that hate it, but I got lucky and missed em I guess

It has three barrels!!!! Like Kirk's rifle from WNMHGF!
Dayyyum!
If only all other departments (costumes, make-up) would be on the same level as the prop department...
I understand the need to harken back to TOS, but this is TOO retro to feel like a realistic future weapon. That and the Cage nozzle looks stupid as hell. I hate it. The Kelvin timeline phaser is a better modern reimagining of the phaser.
Sleek and elegantly simple. This is a perfect example of the type of retro-futurism I want to see in science fiction.I quite liked the phaser they made for the USS Kelvin crew:

I am just in awe of the people on Twitter calling this "NRA Porn" and they are missing what "Trek is about"..............have the even watched The Cage? Rifles are as old as Trek............"fans" are gonna drive me to drink. The negative reaction [in that Twitter thread] to showing weapons from a science fiction action series is ... disturbing.
How absurd. Phasers have been part of every single Trek incarnation, and changed so frequently they became visual shorthand for the era. I do wonder whether some have ever actually watched the show.I am just in awe of the people on Twitter calling this "NRA Porn" and they are missing what "Trek is about"..............have the even watched The Cage? Well, you know Twitter -- they're probably seeing this completely out of context and think Paramount/CBS is pushing the phaser as a symbol. Without having seen the other prop teases yet. Plus, there's a contingent of the population who hate weapons and are as vocal about it as a Vegan at a Texas BBQ.I am just in awe of the people on Twitter calling this "NRA Porn" and they are missing what "Trek is about"..............have the even watched The Cage? [wonders briefly about what he just stepped in]
Even Andy Probert was negative about it ... I think he missed a lot of important details.
