Tomato, Potatoes, all the same, right?
Yep.
"Reboot," "reimagining" etc. are words that mean exactly what some marketing people decide they mean this week - nothing more and nothing less. They're mainly used to misdirect, assuage and excuse.
Tomato, Potatoes, all the same, right?
"reimagining®"^ None of those shows were reboots, because they kept to the existing Trek continuity. Reboots require a BREAK in continuity.
You're thinking of a "reimagining", which is just a change in appearance. A show can be a reimagining but not a reboot.
Why is it so DARK
why is eveything so DARK these days?

No, but it COULD be mistaken for a TNG episode:However, in the scheme of things, the internal lighting in the Shenzhou bridge is not so dark it could be mistaken for an Alien movie.
IMO:Orville had nice fx, but yes, it was overlit, bland and not very detailed. The exact opposite of the DSC trailer. So it kind of looks like the trek some people want: old, obsolete trek. Thankfully, we're not getting that.
No comparison here really:

Yes, I see your point - sorta like TNG's "Tin Man" or maybe "First Contact"...Mine was that I could be watching any generic Star Trek TV series of a generation ago - just cooler looking.
IMO:
Star Trek (The first season of TOS had very good lighting) and was shot on film

TNG (In Syndication) - Aka Bland...looks like a Hotel lobby...and they even made it look like it was shot on Broadcast quality Betacam SP.

From what to what? They look round to me.Green's ears change shape in the trailer, she's a Romulan/Vulcan.

Curiously there are no good shots of the Disco herself besides that of her whooshing out of the clouds, which isn't that good since you don't get a clear view of her. Even if it looks radical.
This gets way too complicated.Enterprise was a reboot, this is a reboot of the Enterprise timeline, which was a reboot of the voyager timelines, which was a reboot of the TNG/DS9 Prime timeline.
So in a way, just as a double-negative becomes a positive, this is a reboot that's not actually a reboot since it's a reboot of a reboot.
On TOS, absolutely.Blackface? Seriously?
Except all the final broadcast MASTERS were edited onto 1" boadcast Betacam SP tape (which is why even the original DVD transfers look less then at 480P resolution.) I know for the Blu Rays they recreated the masters from the filmed portions they had, using the original Betacam masters as a guide - but all the original Broadcast masters were on tape.Sure, why not?
BTW, all of TNG was shot on film (edited and with effects inserted in video from the very beginning). And it was always in first-run syndication, never on network.
On TOS, absolutely.
