If Discovery is a bust...

That has nothing to do with continuing the timeline after VOY, which is what you predicated the success of Star Trek on.
Exactly.

Also, to clarify an earlier point of mine, the idea that if Star Trek is rejected then humanity has somehow reach an irredeemable point is rather nonsensical to me. I mean, if were going to use pop culture preferences as a yard stick, then humanity was doomed the moment Transformers got it's 5th movie and Fast and Furious went to number 8.
Ask and you shall receive-the franchise dies a decade or less from now.
No.

If Star Trek has lost its relevance, it's because television caught up with Star Trek and left it behind. It might be that Star Trek will become a property that had its time and place, but eventually lies fallow.

I still firmly believe that if the studio doesn't produce quality star trek, then we as the fans need to step up.

Star Trek, science fiction program about humanity. A franchise barely alive. Gentlemen, we can recreate it. We have the technology. We have the capability to produce amazing shows from our garages. Star Trek will be that show. Better than it was before. Better, more diverse, more infinite.

And yes, I know the CBS watchdogs are out. Swamp 'em. We're not all trying to go over the top like Axanar. Eventually they'll get tired of playing King Of The Hill.

To what end? CBS will keep Star Trek as long as they can make money, and be profitable. As much as I enjoy Star Trek, I am skeptical that a large portion of fans are willing to put up the resources required in order to make Star Trek. No just money, but time, and effort, and acting.

Also, it should not just be about "recreating" TOS, or TNG or any thing like that. There is also a need for new stories, moving in to unexplored eras, or rebooting it whole cloth and basing that off of real world technological advancements, while maintaining the optimistic streak that GR started off with in TOS.

I admire your enthusiasm but I wonder at the end result.
