Not a great opening season, but when has Trek ever had one since TOS? On to season 2...

Stay strong. Most of the early Season 2 episodes are of the "utterly meaningless. Like, why am I still watching" variety.
Watch Nemesis when you just can't take it anymore. After watching that... "movie", any Star Trek will seem like a masterpiece of cinema.

For an old TOS Trekkie like me, all the time traveling and cloaking going on put me off. If they were so damn common in Archer's era, why did Kirk and Spock act so surprised the first time they encountered them? Or are they just something else Archer failed to mention in his logs? It's like the writers kept forgetting this was all supposed to be taking place BEFORE TOS, TNG, DS9 and V'ger. Or didn't care. Or (my theory) weren't talented enough to be able to alter their thinking to prequel mode.

I like to think of it as Archer was the REASON Captain's Logs were mandated throughout Star Fleet. "If we don't leave a paper trail they can't convict!"

Can someone explain in Carbon Creek how it's possible for a human woman in the '50s to feel any attraction towards that Vulcan creep? My man needs to fix them eyebrows ASAP and start talking like a real human living in 20th century America.

Interesting T'Pol story otherwise.

Carbon Creek is rather like DS9's "Little Green Men". It's a fun story so long as you don't actually think to hard on it, and just go with it. (Actually the same can be said for pretty much any ST Time Travel plot with the possible exception of "City on the Edge of Forever" which actually holds up through complex thought. And yes I know Carbon Creek isn't really a Time Travel story, but it fits the mold.)

The only thing I recall about that episode was trip and Malcolm sitting around talking inappropriately about a colleague, kind of lines up with b&bs attitude towards female cast members though. I personally didn't really see that as much character development.

Because it happens in the real world...a man who likes to grab women by the kitty kat is running the White House.

A Night in Sickbay is so god damn stupid. Not surprised with this being the same guy who wrote such classics as Threshold, Sub Rosa and Genesis, utterly bizarre and goofy episodes that don't have much at all in common with the rest of their respective shows.

I think I can appreciate the intent, it's a major flop though. The "comedy" in this episode falls flat on its face and the character development, if you can even call it that, is painfully awkward, enforcing the stereotype that T'Pol's just there to look pretty (and she's one of my favourite characters on the show!). Porthos gets sick and Archer turns into a ravaging lunatic who can't even keep command of his ship. Thank god for that dog, because if not for it, Archer would probably be back on Earth lying face down in a ditch.

As @Griffeytrek said, maybe these aren't Starfleet's best of the best. Win if you do, win if you don't. Smart thinking, Admiral Forrest.

The writers were trying to create chemistry that had bypassed them and went to Trip/T'Pol instead
I felt sorry for Archer, it took him 4 years to get laid and he had to have pity sex with his ex girlfriend up a mountain....which explains a lot.

If it makes you feel any better. One Night in Sickbay probably stands as Enterprises second to worst episode, and would have taken the prize if Berman and Braga hadn't pulled a last minute Hail Mary of horror for the finale.

Oh and if you want to understand who or what the dog is, go research Marvel's actual comic book origins of Rocket Racoon. It will suddenly all make sense.
