I officially began my journey through all Star Trek on October 9th...

The mediocrity of Nemesis and season two of ENT has killed poor Shalashaska. It was nice knowing you. :ouch:

Although I suppose whilst Nemesis's story is poorly thought out and edited, on action levels it fares a little better.

I'm forever disappointed that the Romulan political angle, once it put Picard's clone in power, became almost superfluous. Perhaps a film focused around Romulan politics and society would tread too close to Undiscovered Country, but at least that would be different from the Khan clones they were producing. Moreover, an examination of whether or not we are ready to put aside personal feelings for peace can still feel fresh.

I will give props to the battle scene, which despite some major violations of physics, attempted to make sense of tactics.

ETA: I also have to register my contempt for Data shutting down B4--this was precisely the type of threat that would be lobbied against Data when he failed to accept orders, that he would be shut down, shelved or dismantled. It was a complete reversal of the recognition of his personhood.

@Shalashaska , at least you were spared the buyer's remorse of catching it first-run in the theater. That was one of two times when I distinctly remember walking out of the theater asking myself why I paid to see that movie. The other was Batman & Robin.

I'll be the one to mention the hair. The other times we saw Picard as a young man and a child, he had a full head of hair. He's bald because he's OLD, not because he never had hair. But of course they had to give us Shinzon's naked pate as shorthand for "Picard clone" so we poor stupid viewers would understand.

And speaking of clones, I sure wish they'd stop trying to remake Wrath of Khan and give us an interesting film about exploring strange new worlds.

Poor Tim Hardy. Killed his career for nearly a decade. I'm pretty sure he blamed it for a major buot of depression and a suicide attempt as well.

If we're getting into the movie's plot/continuity holes, "Shinzon wants to destroy Earth because that's what Star Trek villains do" takes the cake.

Yeah, Shinzon's whole motivation doesn't make any sense, which kind of puts a damper on the entire thing.

At a convention I went to a few years ago, I got to talk to LeVar Burton and Marina Sirtis about Nemesis. They both had seriously negative things to say about the director, Stuart Baird.

My personal pet peeve scene is that ridiculously drawn-out "reveal" of Shinzon where he's holding an extended conversation with the TNG characters in the dark, before they finally raise the lights to reveal--*gasp*--he's...he's...some bald guy who I guess we're supposed to think looks just like Picard!

They really wasted the potential of having an evil Picard clone by not having him played at the same age by Patrick Stewart. That could have been gold.

But his career was resuscitated! he was in that Batman movie... playing Bane... mumbling into a mask so he couldn't be understood... such that his performance became one of the longest running meme's on the internet. Oh dear! Poor dude.

Was Baird the director that kept calling Burton "Laverne"?

And lets not forget the final indignity to the franchise. The true evil that has in fact conquered the Galaxy! Janeway! Crazy evil serial killing Janeway! is now Picard's boss!

I have no idea what Bane said in Lego Batman but his impersonation of Hardy was so spot on I laughed everytime he spoke. Funniest part of the movie.

In seriousness, Hardy is a talented actor who does rely on his grumble mumble technique too heavily.

Fury Road is a modern masterpiece. My wife can't watch it because Hardy's PTSD is too real for her. Same reason she can't watch Jessica Jones.

Last week we were watching Taboo and my wife was saying how much she liked Tom Hardy.

I asked her if she wanted me to ruin him for her and pulled up a clip from Nemesis on youtube.

The reaction was priceless.

How far along are you with Season 2 of Enterprise now?
Looking forward to your oinions of Season 3, which on the whole is pretty unique and several episodes are treading new ground (for Trek) thanks to the new season structure.

Whenever I watch that movie, I have to turn on the subtitles.

Baird is a competent editor. He has been nominated for awards in that area several times. But he shouldn't direct. EVER.

I detected a note of Sarcasm in Stewart's voice throughout his conversation with Janeway.
