You mean, in America you don't have Christmas crackers containing paper hats, party favours & crap/corny jokes?
Nope. I never saw them until the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas special. We have trees, presents, stockings, wreaths, eggnog, decades-old TV specials and movies, but not that.
Can I just say that I was on the side of the red coats in this episode and (especially given what's happened to America since November) was cheering when Rip started handing out M-16s. I'm also British of course.
I realized on my rewatch that the sequence of events made no sense. First, we saw Rip killing George Washington on Christmas Day, 1776. Then we saw him handing out rifles to the Redcoats and Thawne telling him to stop the Legends when they arrived. Then we saw the Legends arrive on Christmas Eve, before Washington was killed, and saving him from an attack by Redcoats with modern guns, led by a Rip who was already prepared for their arrival? Whaaaaa??? So did Rip have second thoughts, go back a day earlier in time, and give the day-earlier Redcoats guns again?
