Between that and the "I'll save you, fair maiden" bit in "The Naked Time," I always figured that Sulu had a bit of an unspoken crush on Uhura. He does in my headcanon, at least.Well, at least Sulu tried to approach Uhura in Mirror, Mirror...

Do you put things in the trunk or the boot of your car? When you enter a building, are you on the ground floor or the first floor? Do you go up to a higher floor in an elevator or lift? Is a bird an attractive lady or a flying creature? Or both? Do you say "I might" or "I might do"?

Well their alter egos in the Mirror Universe definitely had something going on but as we saw very little of their Uhura maybe it was a one way thing for Mirror Hikaru?

Maybe Uhura just was turned off by massive scar tissue.![]()
I'd say that Mirror Sulu's opening line "Still no interest, Uhura?" makes it pretty clear that it was a one-sided attraction.Well their alter egos in the Mirror Universe definitely had something going on but as we saw very little of their Uhura maybe it was a one way thing for Mirror Hikaru?

Mirror Uhura had it going on with Mirror Spock (well in my head they did)I'd say that Mirror Sulu's opening line "Still no interest, Uhura?" makes it pretty clear that it was a one-sided attraction.

I have a feeling that if "This Side of Paradise" had been kept as a Sulu love story, they would have cast an Asian actress to play Leila Kalomi.Anyway, back on topic, I think if Sulu had been Leila's former love interest, that would have been an interesting angle for the time, as the Asian-American male / Caucasian female romantic dynamic was quite uncommon in movies and TV.
I wonder if Leila Kalomi was intended to be Asian/Pacific Islander of some kind in the first place. The name sounds Hawaiian.I have a feeling that if "This Side of Paradise" had been kept as a Sulu love story, they would have cast an Asian actress to play Leila Kalomi.
