HUGE Mr Sulu Spoiler

He's had a daughter since 1993.

Who is Sulu's spouse effects Demora's story dramatically.

Assumptions were made because we were backward, but "now" we can see that how Sulu became a father is probably a much more interesting story than "Oops! Bugger it. Whatever. "

Oh.

How is the fanfiction forum handling this?

Any really graphic gay porn been presented yet?

But that is not my intention at all, and there's no need for you to try to make this confrontational.

You are welcome to participate, but TrekBBS has a rule which discourages posting the same thing over and over. Once you've said a thing once or twice, further repetitions are unnecessary. Part of my job as forum moderator is to be sure that new members such as yourself understand the rules by which they agreed to abide in registering here. You may now consider yourself advised concerning that particular rule.

Go forth and participate freely... but without repeating yourself too many times.

Really? After that post of yours? You made a deep analysis of all my posts (even got to the conclusion that i said this was forced on me, i never said that, it is your conclusion), you found nothing to criticize (or perhaps to accuse me of anything because that was your intention)..Than you decided to invent that I was spamming. You re a hypocrite…you all are.

Why don t you do the same to everyone here?

Your post is unbelievable. A shame…

Beware of not repeating myself??really?' Unbelievable nerve. Unbelievable post.

This is my final post here. It is only to let you know that what you did is a shame man…a shame.

You re a complete hypocrite. You re low man. very low.

and I would really like an honest answer to the question

I would answer with pleasure, but probably i would repeat myself and accused of spamming, and as you can see from that moderator, the pressure is to much obvious.
I m out., as it is their will.

No, I think they should keep the characters as they were out of respect to the original cast and crew who worked their asses off to make them and create them, and keep them alive, and basically letting these new actors and crew earn millions and millions of money while the originals had to slave at conventions for a decade for s*it money.

The whole Adding diversity(this magic word) argument is silly for me. They could have introduced a new character if the only reason for someones sexuality was diversity and not adding to the character/story.

So Will, your character Kirk was awesome, I watched you play him for 40 odd years, a real inspiration for us. So anyway in this new movie we decided that Kirk is a girl, yeah he was a girl all along, can you believe that? Anyway so she and Spock were secret lovers all along!

If that's the case, then you still have not actually answered the question I asked.

Why is *this* change in any way worse than the others? Why is this a forced travesty that disrespects Gene's memory and the other changes apparently aren't worth commenting on?

The other changes are minor, or could logicly be assumed made because of Vulcan blowing up

Which ones do you mean besides spock and uhura?

Scotty being a completely different person is explained by Vulcan?
Spock and Uhura were a couple before Vulcan disappeared, too.

At this point you're just making stuff up. The Sulu change is ridiculously minor and irrelevant to the plot compared to all these other changes.

Yeah, right. Nice try.
Unfortunately they did not hear Mr Takey advice. The pressure was so big that they did not care. That is why i will not see the movie. I do not like to feel forced. When i am forced to something my natural reaction is to fight.

No, the others are minor or just fleshing out the character, not totally retconning them..But ok I agree the Relationship is sorta forced too but again not a complete retcon

At this point youre just making stuff up

Sulu having a husband who's on screen for two minutes changes almost nothing. Chekov being a complete genius is basically completely rewriting the character.

I really don't understand your definition of minor at all.
In a way you re right.. but even so, adding intelligence is a way to flesh out the character, Checkov was very anonymus before. Again it's not a retcon, he wasn't retarded before.. but they want him to be more then a helmsman.

Chekov was a navigator in TOS.

Chekov was largely a buffoon in the prime universe.

The off camera switch to security explained (retroactively?) how he was upwardly mobile enough to be Terell's XO on the USS Reliant.

You all keep repeating that it definitely doesn't have anything to do with the fact that this involves making a character gay, only with changing a character. But the only character change any of you is complaining about is the one that involves making a character gay (despite the fact that that is one of the smallest and least intrusive changes in this new universe).

That's not really true though. People complain about everything from Khan's major changes all the way down to Kirk's haircut. People complain about the ship design, the lens flares, the fabric of the uniforms, the bike jump in the trailer. This is just the latest thing and also the thread topic.

Spock and Uhura's relationship changes their characters in huge ways, much more than Sulu having a husband living elsewhere.
The changes aren't necessarily a bad thing. If they're not going to explore the characters from different angles I don't know what the point of the reboot is.

Chekov wasn't intellectually stupid he was just an intelligent idiot, mathematically smart, capable of retaining facts, but a ludicrously poor judge of character. Making him a bridge tactical officer seemed OK to me; making him head of security seemed like a terrible idea (did he ever win a fight in TOS?), an opinion that was vindicated by every terrible security decision he made in STII, STIII, STIV, STV, and STVI.

NuChekov became a navigation expert, a transporter expert, an engineer, and then a chief engineer (all within a year of graduation) largely to give the character something to do but just because they both have a Russian accent and the same name does not make them the same character. They are absolutely, I repeat ABSOLUTELY, different characters.

I'd go as far as to say that Scotty, Uhura, and Spock are almost entirely different too. To his very great credit Pine manages to give you glimpses of Shatner's Kirk mixed in with the bad boy but it's only really McCoy and Sulu that bear a reasonable resemblance to the originals. Even if you subscribe to the notion that Sulu Prime was entirely straight, Cho's Sulu still has more in common with Takei's character than Yelchin's Chekov has with Koenig's Chekov.

That's not to say the new versions are not fun or likeable (although Pegg's Scotty is awful IMO). They are just different characters.
