According to Pablo Hidalgo, one of the guys on the Story Team (he also answers fan questions in the Rebels BTS segments) the AT-ATs in Rogue One are not called that. He didn't say what they were, just not AT-ATs.

I wonder why they would give them a different name.

^No idea why they'd do that either, especially since the ones in Rebels (which look even less like the ones in ESB) are called AT-ATs.

TFA didn't really push any boundaries of filmmaking, IMO. It was a very solid, straightforward and entertaining mainstream movie that was very similar to just about any other action/adventure blockbuster in theaters, in terms of structure, production, etc. And I think Lucas's early complaints about the movie (before he retracted and said everyone did a great job) were basically that it was just more of the same old stuff. Don't get me wrong... I really like TFA, and I'm on my eighth viewing. But it just felt a little too much like the vanilla mainstream of the 2010s to me.

If TFA had done with Star Wars what Batman Begins and The Dark Knight did with Batman, I would have been ecstatic.

We'll see if Rogue One dares to do things differently.

I wonder if this film, along with the events in Rebels season three, will be used to justify calling Obi-wan Kenobi out of retirement? Rebels looks to be taking a dark turn so far, and we assume Darth Vader will make a brutal appearance in Rogue One. The lack of Jedi will be keenly felt in this movie. Darth Vader slashing through rebel troops would do that. With the turn Rebels is making, it would seem reasonable that the Rebel Alliance has no one who can stand toe to toe with Darth Vader. They don't even have hundred people who can stand against him 100 to 1. Because he's Darth Vader.

Who can you call on to defeat a Sith Lord? A Jedi Master? Who has defeated a Sith Lord in recent memory? Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are the only two that come to mind. (Obi-wan's have a habit of not dying when they are "killed"). Anakin is "dead". So that leaves Sith Carver Kenobi.

I wonder what that was like at Yavin base when they heard two things. One that Kenobi had fallen to Darth Vader, but that he sent them a Skywalker. I would think that anyone with any real knowledge about the Clone Wars would know those two names. Skywalker and Kenobi.

I can picture it now. Obi-Wan returns to his little hut in the Jundland Wastes and is surprised to find Bail Organa waiting for him, and Bail says he's there to talk to Obi-Wan about the Skywalker Initiative.

Roll credits, with this blaring over them:

^^I'd have changed Bail Organa to Mace Windu's Force Ghost, just to make things even more similar.

George Lucas thought 'Korriban' sounded too similar to Coruscant, so he had them rename it.

    Still a stupid reason.

Yeah, you gotta change the name, or else people will obviously get this planet confused with this planet!

    What a jackass.

I'm still pissed at Princess Leia for giving up Tatooine to Tarkin as the fake location of the Rebel base, knowing he was planning to blow it up. I mean, I know Tatooine is a shithole, but it's not as bad as Rey's desert planet, Naboo.

When did she do that? She mentioned Dantooine, not Tattooine

Probably because AT-AT refers to a specific model of walker and these seems to be a slightly different design from the ones we saw on Hoth & Endor.
Hypothetically suppose for a second that they are geared more towards troop transportation and deployment than assaulting fortified positions (a reasonably assumption if they're there in a defensive role) then perhaps they'd have a designation something along the lines of AT-PC (All Terrain Personnel Carrier) only not quite so stupid sounding,

Have they ever said that the walkers on Rebels were AT-ATs? They appear to be a different design too, but with it being an animated show it's a little more open to interpretation.

As for the Korriban thing: I actually liked "Moraband" a bit better. I did wonder though if it was partially to draw some subtle relationship to Mortis.
Even so, it's not out of the realms of possibility that a place name can change over the years. Perhaps Korriban is the same name just in a much older dialect. Indeed, we've seen evidence that the ancient Jedi and the old Sith Empire both used a different alphabet (one based off of McQuarrie's Yavin IV temple paintings.) Ahsoka even refers to it as "the old tongue" and we hear Sidious reciting some incantation in what sounds like it could be the same language.

When the AT-ATs show up in Rebels, I don't remember if they referred to them by name in the episode (they only called them "walkers" in ESB), but the behind the scenes information (here) calls them AT-ATs. Wookieepedia also calls them AT-ATs.

As for Korriban, I like the changed/multiple names theory. Istanbul/Constantinople.
