Hate for the new Trek and the Future of Trek

Yes, I am. But it is only an example.
Though, Myk, would you rather have a bad movie or no movie?
It's a bad example. Food is required to live. Movies, not so much. Movies are sugarcoated globs of fat. Not that far from "poison".

I'm going with bad movie. Though the last two Trek films do not fall into that category for me.

Every Star Trek fan has their opinion. I respect yours. Now, I do not hate the new movies but I prefer the prime universe.

I would take no movie and all the books, if given the choice between bad film and no film.

Personally, I find no "poison" in Abrams Trek but I certainly understand the point of view. I simply disagree with it.

I feel that there is a lot of misdirected hate aimed at the new movies that I just don't understand. I remember times, multiple times actually, that there was no trek, and perhaps even no possibilty of future Trek. I am very optimistic at the moment about the future of Star Trek and the direction that it is heading in. While many feel that thte Abrahmsverse is a little too "actiony" for their likes, it's still Star Trek. While would like to see a return to the classic Trek stories, and character/moral driven story lines that speak to societal issues and high brow story lines, I think some fans miss the point. Interest is interest, and I think that the thing that I fear most is that the fans like myself are getting older and there just won't be any interest in Star Trek in 20 to 30 years. There has got to be a financial incentive for the studios to make new movies and series, and you have to draw in a new fan base. Are there times when Star Trek has made some missteps with the movies or series? Absolutely! Would I take any of those back? Never.

I think I just wanted somewhere to vent, anyway. KIt's good to see a community like this that is passionate about Trek, rather than talking about how much the new movies suck. Thanks.

The films have tended to be more actiony than the TV series, that's just true. The TV series have at least tried to aim for a morality tale wrapped in some form of entertaining package, that's just true. But the previous movies at least attempted the merest sliver of a morality tale, whereas the latest two have abandoned that entirely and focused completely on the action. They abandoned the heart of the franchise for popularity. I know there's a whole mess of people on here that are overjoyed at that. And good for them. Too bad it comes at the expense of what was unique and wonderful about Star Trek. The franchise isn't just the names, places, and tech. Interest isn't interest when you have to fundamentally change the heart of the franchise to garner that interest.

I know why people hate the rebooted/Abrams movies! You know that rivalry between Star Trek and Star Wars fans? Well, JJ Abrams worked on Star Wars. So maybe die-hard "pure" trekkies did not want a Star Wars guy messing up/adding to/working on superior Star Trek.

I like Star Wars movies, and get along with Star Wars fans quite well.

The "rivalry" is a fabrication. The only problem some of us have with the two Abrams trek's is we don't lie what was done with it, no hate is involved. Personally I love the costumes and the pre-title sequence of ST Eleven is fantastic.

I dislike the re-imagining of James Kirk, and the relationship between Spock and Uhura (I feel) was a mistake.

How is the Star Trek/Star Wars rivalry a fabrication?

I also dislike the new disrespectful, "shooter" guy and the relationship which we agree on (it was a mistake).
