Normally I'm not much of a fan of these types of episodes (I hated most of the droid episodes in TCW) but I found this really enjoyable. Nice to get a bit of back-story for Chopper. Part of me hopes we'll get a "young Hera during the Clone Wars" flashback episode someday, or at least a comic book series like they did for Kanan.
Nice use of the old Death Star Droid design, though based more on Quarrie's original concept with the visor as a separate piece instead of moulded into the head like the screen version was. I think the latter version also showed up in TCW here and there.
For a second I though that planet they'd found was Yavin (big red planet with blue/green-ish moon) but watching back it's clearly not a gas giant but a rocky planet. Good thing too; I'd be mildly annoyed if they skipped over Dantooine.
One reason why I thought they might go there early though was that we know from the trailer that they're going to visit a Sith Temple (presumably on Malachor) and since we know there are also Sith Temples on Yavin, there's a connection there. My thinking being that the Yavin ruins led them to Malachor. There still might be, but possibly the other way around.
I'm still hopeful that the Dantooine base will turn out to be the old Jedi enclave from KoTOR. I kind of like the idea the rebels might be choosing these ancient abandoned Sith and Jedi ruins and battle sites as bases since they're actively avoided if not forgotten by most everyone else. I can certainly imagine Palpatine forbidding any travel to such places as he wouldn't want anyone disturbing any old Sith artefacts that might be a threat to him. One imagines the ancient Sith got very nasty and creative at the height of their power. Who knows what's still out there.
For me one of the funniest side effects of retconning him into the prequels is how it totally changes those first scenes with Yoda in tESB. R2 is blatantly going along with Yoda's shtick since logically he should know exactly who he is. The pair of them as straight-up conning Luke with that act.

Only in R2's case, he really is the hero in Episodes I-VII.
He's also the biggest douche for knowing all the stuff he knows (Vader is Luke's father. Leia is Luke's sister. Knows where Luke is hiding, etc..) but I don't want to go there.

Speaking of that scene: I know it's a silly nitpick and probably just due to a disconnect between script and staging, but how the hell did Ezra see that strut all the way over there at a glance?Silly as it was I loved Chopper hands rubbing his eyes when he spotted the leg.
