Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

Normally I'm not much of a fan of these types of episodes (I hated most of the droid episodes in TCW) but I found this really enjoyable. Nice to get a bit of back-story for Chopper. Part of me hopes we'll get a "young Hera during the Clone Wars" flashback episode someday, or at least a comic book series like they did for Kanan.

Nice use of the old Death Star Droid design, though based more on Quarrie's original concept with the visor as a separate piece instead of moulded into the head like the screen version was. I think the latter version also showed up in TCW here and there.

For a second I though that planet they'd found was Yavin (big red planet with blue/green-ish moon) but watching back it's clearly not a gas giant but a rocky planet. Good thing too; I'd be mildly annoyed if they skipped over Dantooine.
One reason why I thought they might go there early though was that we know from the trailer that they're going to visit a Sith Temple (presumably on Malachor) and since we know there are also Sith Temples on Yavin, there's a connection there. My thinking being that the Yavin ruins led them to Malachor. There still might be, but possibly the other way around.

I'm still hopeful that the Dantooine base will turn out to be the old Jedi enclave from KoTOR. I kind of like the idea the rebels might be choosing these ancient abandoned Sith and Jedi ruins and battle sites as bases since they're actively avoided if not forgotten by most everyone else. I can certainly imagine Palpatine forbidding any travel to such places as he wouldn't want anyone disturbing any old Sith artefacts that might be a threat to him. One imagines the ancient Sith got very nasty and creative at the height of their power. Who knows what's still out there.

Only in R2's case, he really is the hero in Episodes I-VII.

He's also the biggest douche for knowing all the stuff he knows (Vader is Luke's father. Leia is Luke's sister. Knows where Luke is hiding, etc..) but I don't want to go there.

For me one of the funniest side effects of retconning him into the prequels is how it totally changes those first scenes with Yoda in tESB. R2 is blatantly going along with Yoda's shtick since logically he should know exactly who he is. The pair of them as straight-up conning Luke with that act. ;)
Silly as it was I loved Chopper hands rubbing his eyes when he spotted the leg.
Speaking of that scene: I know it's a silly nitpick and probably just due to a disconnect between script and staging, but how the hell did Ezra see that strut all the way over there at a glance?

Force Vision :ouch:

Next week's episode looks like "Out of Darkness" 2.0

^It's weird seeing those things animated like that. From the McQuarrie paintings I'd always imagined them to be slow, deliberate and essentially harmless.

what are they?
One of several creature concepts Ralph McQuarrie came up with for the Dagobah scenes in tESB. Strangely the old EU never came up with a name for them as far as I'm aware.

The flavour text that came with that image in 'The Illustrated Star Wars Universe' claims that's it's the mobile phase in the lifecycle of those big rooty trees on Dagobah, though I'm pretty sure that was purely KJA's invention and they don't appear to be going with it here. Other than them digging in while dormant anyway.

I've seen some sites and vloggers asserting that they're kinrath, but even a cursory glance should dispel that notion. I think the other KoTOR name drops of late may have just gotten them a little over eager.

The main Disney Channel is reairing 2x15, The Call, and 2x16, Homecoming, tonight at 10:00 and 10:30 Az time.

Only one new line of dialog at the very end, but still really cool...

I watched the two Disney Channel episodes last night.
The Call was pretty good, but there wasn't really anything over noteworthy in it.
Homecoming was a lot more interesting. It was really cool seeing Cham again was cool, but because of the Clone Wars connection, and it gave us some really nice stuff for Hera.

Hunh. I just noticed we only have THREE episodes left, yet almost none of the amazing snippets we saw in the Season 2.5 trailer have happened yet! Is this ALL going to be crammed into the last 45 minutes?! I was expecting
Ezra being tempted by the dark side
to be built up more along the way.

The planet they found in the episode isn't Dantooine, it is called Atollon according to the episode guide.
Yes I know. I meant when they eventually got around to Dantooine, because of course they will sooner or later.

They're what now? Three to four years out from ANH? At this rate they'll have caught up with the movies by season 4.

"Mystery of Chopper Base" was a decent monster of the week episode. Those massive facehuggers were super creepy.
Why DOESN'T Sabine have a jetpack?! I could have sworn she's had one before...?

Never had one...

Did you happen to notice a few notes of Operation Knightfall being played as Rex held his ground on the airlock?

I don't know what that is, but I did notice the Alien music playing when they were exploring the cave.

Operation Knightfall was the forceful dissolution of the Jedi Order at the Temple prior to the issuing of Order 66. If you look it up on youtube, the few notes concerned are from the moment the 501st and Vader march up the temple steps
