This is what I was telling people today, I knew we weren't going to catch-up with Glenn this week.
I did really like Eastman and as I said earlier I really wish he could've been a newer character have around more long-term. But we know he'd just butt heads with Rick and everyone else in our group.
But, as I also said earlier, it's hard to get on his side -and now Morgan's- of "all life is precious" especially in a world where half the population has been turned into monsters trying to kill you and the other half into zombies (Hay-oooo!!!)
And such notion has always bothered me in a sense of "aren't plants life too? Aren't the bacteria used to grow taste in cheese life?" Pedantic, yes, but you shouldn't feel bad about ending a life if you intend to use it for your nourishment.
I understand not killing out of malice or sport, but killing in order to eat shouldn't be looked down on. Humans have canine teeth for a reason. But, whatever, that's my problem with the notion of vegetarianism. It's one thing, though, to do it out of 'health reasons' it's another because "all life is precious."
I do wonder how likely it is all of the walkers him came across had their wallets on them, this means they were killed when there was still a society (I doubt anyone now is walking around with their wallets and ID on them anymore) and further how many of them would still have their wallets on them in any useful form after being on their person and exposed to elements for several months to two years. And how did he ID the female walkers? Women don't exactly carry their IDs in a billfold in their pocket. I do like and "respect" the notion of him burying them; sort of like the funeral home Daryl and Beth found a couple seasons back where someone had apparently been embalming and burying the walkers.
But the "peace and life is precious" notion is one to have or support in this chaotic world. Eastman was isolated from the horrors of everything that was going on; his approach isn't something that's really rational to have against someone trying to kill you. Yeah, don't kill unless you have to -like Morgan did when ambushing the two guys in the middle of the woods; and didn't do with the couple who gave him the can of food and bullet- but if you're dealing with people, or a group of people, running through a town killing people randomly and without any real sense of purpose; dammit man you take action and kill! Not let them live so that they can, I dunno, ambush a friend in an RV and nearly kill *him.*
