I think Marvel Studios must be thinking the same thing. And with Agent Carter doing good enough maybe they can provide ten week blocks of shows for ABC rather than the traditional 22 weeks on and 30 off

Whatever the show ends up being, I'll certainly watch it. Prequel/sequel/spinoff/half-hour sitcom/flashback/dream sequence/whatever.

And yeah, the "not a spinoff" thing seems to make little sense, but I would only assume that they're saying that because the storyline won't directly tie in to the AOS storyline.

Actually, I would assume they're saying that because the want the show to feel new and fresh. "Look folks, it's a new Marvel superhero tv show. Not one of those non-superhero episodes of AOS that people were complaining about in the first season."

Well, I hope they get the show. I'll miss seeing Hunter, but I've been ready to see Mockingbird leave the show since we first learned she was reporting to someone about Coulson. It would thin out the cast, and get rid of the second worst character on the show after Mac. Plus, Mockingbird's fans would still get to see her, so it would really be a win-win for everyone. Hopefully the spin off pilot goes better than the last superhero pilot Palicki starred in

If you mean the show, I'm about a year older than MTM, but was still 7 when Lou Grant first aired. I was old enough to have seen both shows in original broadcast and to wonder WTF (in not those words) about the differences.

When I started watching Mary Tyler Moore, I was more confused why that sweet dimwit Rose from the Golden Girls had turned into an oversexed backstabbing super#####.

I'm concerned about going from one excellently full show to two diluted disappointing shows by splitting the cast (I'm looking at you, Angel Season One and Buffy Season Four!)*

    * Buffy Five and Angel Two totally turned it around, though.

There was nothing wrong with Buffy Season 4.

It took him a while, but Riley eventually accepted that he was a damsel in distress.

Maybe because many people have used "spin-off" in a pejorative way over the years indicative of diminishing returns they want to distance themselves from the term.

    Illogical, but possible.

Originally Betty White was cast to play the similar character in Golden Girls, but someone (maybe White herself) decided it would be better to go against typecast and the actresses switched roles.

Somehow I have survived to senior Trekker. I saw the MTM and Lou Grant in real time and the shift to newspaper editor after everybody but Ted Baxter got fired wasn't jarring at all

    I love Bobbi :)

My favorite characters in a semi-serious order are:

    Coulson

    Ward

    Fitz

    Hunter

    May

    Bobbi

    Mack

    Lola

    Least favorite: Skye.

I realize that Skye and her story are important to the overall show, but to me she is super vanilla and rather boring.

I was a bit young to see the early seasons of MTM, except in reruns, but I was there from the start for Lou Grant. I would've been nine at the time. I think it took me a while even to realize the oddity of a drama spinning off from a sitcom. After all, a lot of sitcoms at the time tackled dramatic storylines and had "very special episodes" from time to time. There was the MTM episode with the clown dying, and there was All in the Family and its frequent controversy-tackling, and Barney Miller often straddled the line between sitcom and police drama. And Lou Grant was a drama that had plenty of character humor. So I didn't really see a sharp dividing line between the genres, and thus the transition wasn't jarring. Lou still felt like the same person to me; he was just in a context where more dramatic things happened.

Skye was my least favorite when the show sucked in early season 1, but I definitely like her now (although she's not my favorite). Coulson is easily my favorite, with May and Fitz at second and third. The only ones I don't like from the main cast are Mockingbird and Mac, although Simmons was very close to being as hated until she turned it around and stopped being a psycho near the end of season 2, so I'm neutral leaning toward liking her if she's done well in Season 3.

I didn't care for how they portrayed Simmons in Season 2, but considering all the trauma she and Fitz had been through, it wasn't unrealistic to assume that she would be a bit of a head - case.

The Bahrain episode was absolutely fantastic, and turned May into a likable, believable, and sympathetic character and vaulted her wayyyy up my favorites chart.

I want to like Skye - her character has been given the most development and screen time of any other short of Coulson, I just can't. Maybe its the actress - but she just isn't compelling. I find myself wanting to zip through her scenes.

Ward on the other hand started off as vanilla tough guy, but wow he has turned around. What a fantastic character! I didn't enjoy his strange detour with Agent 33, but I am looking forward to his arc in Season 3.

Besides the failed Wonder Woman pilot I believe she was also in the Failed Lost in Space reboot pilot a few years back...I could be remembering wrong and it was someone else.

According to IMDB, you're right. She was also the villain in the Aquaman pilot apparently, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be a recurring role, so its different than WW or LiS.

When Ms. Palicki first showed up I almost ignored the rest of the episode trying to figure out were I knew her from, and I am sad to say it took a Google search to reconnect her to Friday Night Lights. What a change of characters for her lol.

Perhaps "Marvel's Most Wanted", this Mockingbird/Lance spinoff could be a 10-12 episode Summer show.

Then Marvel TV would have few weeks with nothing airing.

And then there's MASH. A comedy (I think?) that got deadly serious in almost every episode. Not sure what you'd call it. Other than the greatest show of all time of course.
