No promo's/teasers yet?

Something else I noticed in the trailer, they sure are getting their mileage out of that damn Satan Pit spacesuit.
Maybe they put it on Clara specifically because she made fun of it when 11 wore it.

As for Maisie Williams saying "What took you so long, Old Man?" I'm guessing she might be Jenny in a new body. Or that's just trolling and the quote is entirely within the context of what happens in the episode.

My thought was Maisie's playing a younger version of Missy.

Maybe Maisie is a new incarnation of Jenny (The one from the Doctor's daughter, not the gay Paternoster gang member)? "Old man" after all is often used as a synonym for a father.

Or, you know, you could just call her Jenny from the Paternoster Gang

That was interesting anyway, tried to watch the trailer on my FB feed last night but for some reason it kept cutting out midway through so I didn't catch the Maisie Williams bit till today. Interesting, Susan or Jenny would be a good bet, though I wonder as well whether she might not be a young Clara splinter (assuming the splinters are still out there).

Of course it's always possible she's a character from earlier in the season.

Starting to get excited now!

So for the series opener we've got present-day Daleks, old school Daleks, Davros (probably), the Master and the Sisterhood of Karn.

They haven't given Ian Levine a "consultant" job again , have they?

Okay...I've seen it on the computer now after seeing it on my phone first, and it strikes me as very....cinematic looking. Like a movie trailer. I don't mean they way it's been edited, but also the "look" of the footage.

I noticed Capaldi is a lot more expressive in the trailer. He shrugs. He's happy. He's a cool rockstar. He's stunned. He's grinning like a cheshire cat. He simultaneously looks disappointed and is grieving. I like it!

I agree, it's noticeable. I hope that's an auspicious sign that he's having an influence on the show.

Beyond Capaldi, the trailer doesn't do anything for me. We have thirty-odd reaction shots in a a quick cut sequence. Devoid of context, it's difficult to care, and there's nothing gripping enough to make me feel.

I agree that there's not much there, but the look of the footage at least suggests to me a further evolution of the look of the show under Moffat. If nothing else, he's certainly "grown it up" since the RTD-days. As someone else suggested, it looks "out there."

There's enough in this to make me intrigued.

Looks great, but says nothing about plots or storylines. I am very happy to be seeing more creatures and alien worlds. Series 8 was way to Earth-based for my tastes.

I've thought about it a little more. The woman at the end of the trailer? Something in the back of my minds says that that's Romana. That would also fit in with the rumor of K9 being in an episode of Series 9.

So, not an interesting choice, then?

:p

Not especially, no. This is a Steven Moffat production we're talking about. Fans invent convoluted fanwanky theories to work out his stories or tie upcoming characters to past characters, while Moffat may baffle us with bullshit and then pull out something very simple and very traditional that does nothing fanwanky whatsoever. :)

I understand why people are focusing on Maisie Williams and assuming that she must be important. It's the way the trailer is cut. She's the last thing in the trailer, and her sequence in the trailer is the longest unbroken sequence. Yet, I believe the reason why that sequence is the longest clip in the trailer is precisely because they're playing on the audience recognition factor since the SDCC crowd will know her from Game of Thrones. They're pitching that part of the trailer directly at the geek audience, but that doesn't mean Williams' character is any more important than "guest star of the week." How many times were JNT's or RTD's celebrity guest stars important in the greater scheme of Doctor Who's mythology? Honestly, the only one that was important that way was Timothy Dalton as Rassilon.

Moffat's era does look better than RTD's. I'd ascribe that to the technical differences between RTD's SD filming and Moffat's HD filming.

It's not just the recognition factor though, it's the snippet of dialogue as well. The Doctor recognising her and her clearly knowing him well enough to refer to him as old man. It might be taken out of context (as I suggested) but it still implies more, and is designed to do so.

She first appears in Episode 5 "The Girl Who Died" which takes place in the 8th century or so and then reappears in Episode 6 "The Woman Who Lived" which takes place in the 1700's.

Hence her comment and the Doctor's surprise.

The trailer's absolutely fantastic, I really hope the series can live up to it!

As for Massie Williams, I have a feeling she might be Susan, as others have pointed out here.

This is exactly how I read that moment and I'm not surprised people reading too much into it. At least, I certainly hope they are because, based on what little we've been told about the character (rambunctious and stands up to The Doctor, i.e. quite like Arya), I'll be disappointed if she's not an original and just another rethread.

I'm not really assuming anything with Maisie's character other than noting the exchange seems like something a Time Lady would say to The Doctor.

I'll be very surprised if it's anything other than that.

Except K-9 was rumoured to be in completely different episodes than Maisie Williams.

And he certainly wasn't promoted that way. In fact, Dalton's character wasn't even referred to by name in the scripts, except for the part where the Doctor does refer to him as "Rassilon." For Part 1 all of Dalton's dialogue is listed under "The Narrator" and in Part 2 "The Lord President."

Wow, that would fit with the line in the teaser, and be awesome. That probably means its not happening, but I'd really like that to be real.

Only 99 days and a few hours of "Is she Susan/Romana/The Rani/Drax/Mrs Wibbsey/etc.?" to go!
