i don;t know how i missed this...other than we've had several thread son this (and i'm too lazy to look & link).

For the new viewer...i would say this about season 4...to me, at the time, it felt like they were headed back to season 1 in terms of quality and storyline.

The 1st half of season was basically every sci-fi cliche (from parallel universes to time travel to quick growing alien babies)

Pretend that season 5 is a bad dream...or realize it's Tribune trying to get its money for syndication (kinda like the reasoning to re-make Spiderman with Andrew Garfield after 3 successful movies)

I think the first season it greatly overrated and the show did get better until the final season when it appeared as though they ran out of money. But the real failure of the series is that didn't really live up or really explain it's title, so it's really a hard show to explain to somebody who's never seen it.

I think E:FC suffered along with Andromeda too much network interferrence.

Definitely the network influence really hurt them both , especially that second season, and really for both most especially the 5th season.


First season i think some of us give it a lot of grace, and they're still feeling things out, but i think the SUPPORTING characters were great, like Augur and Sandoval, and some truly creative concepts like the Skrill, virtual glass and the Global (which is pretty to close to the modern day cell phone...how far away are we from a collapsable screen?)

Season 1 seemed to be more of a commentary on the human race, as seen thru the eyes of an alien race. This was more Gene Roddenberry's style. Then, Seasons 2, 3, and 4 got to be a bit more "bang-bang!" (or laser beam, laser beam) and cowboy style, relying on Hollywood-action instead of cerebral ideas or character development, which was indicative of Roddenberry. The characters became flat. For example, there was duality with Sandoval early on, where he showed insecurity, jealousy over Boone, and fear at times, then he became "all evil", like Zo'or. They do show a torn and troubled soul with Da'an, where he fluctuates between trying to do what is right vs. using humans for Taelons' gains, so I find his character interesting.

I enjoyed most of S1 - S4, and I liked Liam and Rene more than Boone and Lily. S5, I see what they were going for, and it was a bold "out of the frying pn into the fire" move, but, it was truly awful. It could've been a masterpiece though, if it was done well.

I remember when The Matrix came along the Tribune suits had the show give Liam a black trench coat to wear. That was almost as dumb as the UPN guys who wanted to have boy bands perform in the Enterprise's mess room every week.
