Star Trek: Axanar

The only production, I am aware of, that has claimed to be pitching to (but not endorsed by) CBS is Renegades. But I'm not going to get into that. :)

I think it is more they *plan* to pitch it - according to their site:

We will have a nearly completed film ready to show CBS should they decide to graciously consider and review the film!

I notice they use that as a fudge to say "you can't get the DVD until we do" so that could in theory hold that off for a long time...

I know that I have read that Axanar and Captain Worf been have pitched to CBS.

Captain Worf has become kind of a running joke, unfortunately. Every few months Michael Dorn pops up to say "CBS hasn't said no" as if that somehow means a series is in the offing.

My mom could pitch a Star Trek series to CBS. And she would get the same result as everyone else.

When CBS wants to make a new Star Trek series, they're going to be the ones who will go out and find talent. They're not going to just randomly accept some half-assed idea thrown at them.

To be honest, Star Trek fans should tell Michael Dorn to shut the fuck up already and stop trying to fill them with false hope.

I'm forced to agree with Admiral Cartwright. If Paramount wants to make a new series, they'll do it their way, with their people, on their terms, not with a fan film. Apart from being unprecedented, it just opens up too many cans of legal worms.

...nevermind the opportunity presented by the 50th

you'd think they *MIGHT* want to please the fans? :p

I know Alec, he is not, as far as I am aware, making any such claim about Axanar. Unfortunately, he can't chip in to respond here.

Yeah, which is why I wasn't getting into it. :)

And there's your mistake. You seem to be under the illusion that you're entitled to something by CBS. They are under no obligation to please you or any other Trek fan. They're doing quite well without Star Trek.

Other than the third nuTrek film, I don't see CBS doing anything for the anniversary except perhaps some retrospective special featuring whatever actors are willing to do it.

I have read otherwise, but let's not argue the semantics of "pitched"... ;)

I agree, Alec's (and his crew's) absence here is QUITE regrettable...
I just spoke with Alec and he categorically stated they have not pitched Axanar to CBS. You are not only wrong, you are spreading misinformation as 'fact'. And no, that's not semantics, that's a response from the person who is actually writing and producing film.

As much as I don't want this to happen, this thread is fast on its way to becoming worthless.

Sorry to be such a downer

Well, one would hope that per USS Intrepid's confirmation now, straight from the source (Alec Peters) we can move past this particular sticking point and continue to discuss Axanar rather than drive the thread into the ground.

...not so sure about this, but...

SWEET! can you tell us an more? :)

Paramount has no rights to make a "series". CBS owns the TV rights and all licensing rights since the CBS/Paramount split.
Paramount has the rights to make Star Trek movies (for which they must license the characters from CBS).

This has been discussed at length and is pretty readily available public knowledge.

I've just realised that reads as if Alec said "you are spreading misinformation as fact." He didn't, I'm saying that. Alec, however, was quite succinct in his response that they are not in any way trying to sell Axanar to CBS.

Wow. You sound as if you know as much about this as Alec!

It was my mistake though. I meant CBS, not Paramount. The point remains, however, if CBS (not Paramount, as you have corrected me -- and thank you for that) wanted to make a TV series, they would do so with their own people, not any of the fan films.

i understood :)

but this is getting twisted... I HOPE he is not using semantics like boborci does! ("selling")

let's just dropit shall we? :)

another topic: I have been LOVING the renders from the upcoming video game... have u seen them? (wish hotlinking was allowed) (i know, i know, don't start)
