Roberto Orci Not Directing Trek XIII

How long has it been his avatar? He's known what was in the wind longer than we have. ;)

RE: Orci's cryptic "Bigger chairs to fill" post at Trekmovie: apparently Orci will be the executive producer on the shortly to be announced Star Trek television series.

That actually makes a lot of sense and explains a few things, given his track record as a TV producer.

That link isn't working for me. Can someone quote the article?

"You can have a Star Trek action movie and it not be shit."

BTW, who is Red Letter Media?

[yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWLGH0VHUVs#t=207[/yt]

That's doesn't answer the question as to "who" they are.

RLM is "a film/video production company operated by independent filmmakers Mike Stoklasa (previously of GMP Pictures) and Jay Bauman (formerly of Blanc Screen Cinema)" that mostly make internet review videos and who made a few ultra low budget features.

In other words... just some guys.

They're the guys who made the 90 minute long Star Wars prequel reviews, and the equally good TNG movie ones.

Ninety minute video reviews says it all: Nerds talking into a webcam. Got it.

There's actually a whole back story involving kidnapping hookers and killing them in his basement. The whole thing is actually pretty funny, I highly recommend it.

I appreciate some of the RLM comments and reviews even if I find the Plinkett character repulsive and tiresome. However, the reviews are always several times as long as they need to be. I don't care to watch a feature length review of a feature length film.

Thats fair. Plinkett does get tiresome, which is why I'm glad they ditched him for the Half in the Bag stuff. Beyond the dumb act they do at the start and finish of Half in the Bag, I think they're usually pretty on the ball with movie critiques. Maybe I just have a similar sense of humor/taste though.

As a side note, Best of the Worst is also great if you like bad B-movies.

Anyway, sorry if I came on too strong. I really didn't like Into Darkness but fair enough, you guys did. FWIW, I really dug the minute when the Vengeance chased the Enterprise at warp :P

That must have been one of Ebert's secrets to writing so incisively and with such quotable wit: don't digress into what you think are funny stories about murdering women.

There doesn't seem to be any article there to quote anymore. Searches of THR's site turn up zip.

Looks like someone jumped the gun there.

While it is, of course, my opinion, the first ten minutes of Star Trek (2009) is some of the best trek ever written.

I agree. That is however not what I, the video, or anyone here is talking about.
You've been talking about everything to do with the movies, and the state of the modern Star Trek franchise, to which my post contributes. This Star Trek isn't just some kind of shallow flash-in-the-pan venture, it is a real effort at creating meaningful, fun adventure stories, that manage to stay true to the vision of the original series: to depict exciting stories that have depth, and to bank serious cash.

These films have accomplished these goals.

I said I liked Trek '09 several times. My criticisms were over Into Darkness and Bob Orci only.

You know Bob Orci wasn't the only person involved in making that movie? He had, at least, two co-writers (Kurtzman, Lindleof) and movies are a director driven medium.

So to somehow hold Orci "most responsible" seems uneducated at best.

^^Except he was the only person left behind working on Trek 3, which is what this thread is about. I disliked Orci. He had a hand in Into Darkness. I explained why I didn't like Into Darkness. I didn't like Prometheus too that Lindelof had a hand in, but thats not here nor there.

I thought Lindleof was the quintessential devil in this matter.

Collated rumors. Grains of salt may be needed.

1. Decision to step down was Orci's own, possibly due to stress/health issues. He remains as producer.

2. Production pushed to May for Fall/Winter 2016 release.

3. Abrams, Burke and Pegg are "begging" Edgar Wright, who is leaning toward yes.

4. Badass plot is not true. True plot is moral dilemma story a la TOS/TNG, with crew forced to make a "big decision" while alone at the edge of the galaxy.

and here's a doozy-

5. Movie ends with the destruction of the Prime universe, spinning out the next series, which will focus on the last survivors of the Prime universe as they emerge in the Abramsverse in the midst of full scale war!

Again, grains of salt may be needed.

Unrelated rumor- J. Michael Stracynski says Warners is going to reboot Harry Potter!
