Enjoying it so far - haven't encountered the Alien yet, but mainly I'm enjoying the level of detail in replicating the settings of the original movie.
Isn't it gorgeous? The thing I like is how the lighting and particle effects play off the setpieces, and at times looks as if they are actual movie sets, and not just some CG set piece. My review on the game mentions it.
Just got Super Smash Bros 4 3ds... going to be busy this weekend . Can't wait to play again. Might do some more playing of the new Pokémon ORAS demo too.
Skylanders: Swap Force (birthday present for the fiancé - yeah, big mistake) May God have mercy on my soul and my wallet/bank account. Other than funneling my money right into Bobby Kotick's face, it's a really well-designed, fun couch co-op game with surprising depth and a lot of charme and humor.
After beating Origins yesterday, I think for me the boss battles were more miss than hit. There were a few that were just extremely frustrating, and the worst ones were also usually long ones where, if you make one mistake, you're forced to redo about 10+ minutes of the fight. The last boss fight especially had me cursing up a storm Overall, I think Arkham Origins has a pretty good story, and the same entertaining combat as the other games (at least outside of boss battles). But, I only didn't hate one or two of the boss battles, and the game could be more frustrating than the first two games, and it sometimes felt like cheap frustration from bad/lazy game design. Overall, this was a decent game, but it definitely was lower in quality than the two games that came before it. Next, I'm starting South Park: The Stick of Truth, and I'm really excited for this one. I love South Park, and RPGS, so this should be great.
The biggest thing I hate(d) about most boss battles in just about any game is the whole: "time for boss to cheap you to death" factor. Even when you think you might have a boss' attack patterns down, and you have it down to its last half-inch of health, all of a sudden, the boss pulls out some uber-devastating Alpha Strike attack (that you've never seen before) that kills you instantly, and all your hard work going toward vanquishing it is for naught. So now, in addition to getting its attack pattern down, you have to figure out how to avoid its overwhelming (and cheap) Alpha Strike.
I decided to trade my PS4, which I had been using pretty much as a Blu-Ray player and Netflix machine, in for an XBox One (my friends all got Ones, and if I want to play multiplayer with them, that means I needed one too). I picked up Forza Horizon 2 and The Evil Within. The widescreen aspect of Evil Within takes some getting used to, but the game is creepy as fuck. IGN's review said the reviewer died 200 something times while playing. I believe them. I got chainsawed to death about 20 times in the first chapter. It's not annoying dying so much, and this is the first game I've played that continuously keeps my heartrate up.
Haven't played Origins, but that's pretty much the reason why I liked Arkham City more than the first game. The first game had that stupid boss battle with Ivy which was easily the hardest part of the game for me. I felt AC was more tactical in its approach. Nothing really felt impossible in that game as long as you knew how to approach things. Even the boss battles were more reasonable. The Ivy battle felt like a cheap way to make it harder.
Same, I got pretty pissed at that last one and probably is one of the reasons why I never bothered to replay the game. South Park bar a few mild frame rate drops is one of the most enjoyable experiences you will play. Being a fan of the show helps too and even for a casual RPG fan like myself, the game never gets too complicated and the story is downright
I am now revisiting Battlefield Bad Company 2 on my 360. I love the Bad Company games. Great characters and gameplay. Especially Haggard, who goes from being a buffoonish redneck in the first game, to a much more thoughtful, and professional soldier in BC2. He still has mild cases of buffoonery, but not near the level in BC1, where he and Sweetwater would have me on the floor in stitches with their banter. BC2 still gives me good laughs, but the story is much darker and more serious. I am hoping against all hope for a Bad Company 3!
Just unlocked all the characters in Smash Bros on the 3DS. Including that one sniggering bastard from all those years ago. Not so funny now that we can actually attack you, is it?! Having fun with it and looking forward to the Wii U version, especially after that 50-facts (or 54, who's counting? ) video yesterday. But I don't think that I'm actually that good at the game. It just seems like I have a hard time actually trying to land attacks properly. Maybe I just need more practice.
I'm in the same boat, I'm still learning how to get better at battling. Worth every cent and I'm looking forward to the Wii U version too .
Just bought and started Civilization Beyond Earth and already 3 hours went by what felt like 30 minutes So far so unspectacular but there are some interesting new stuff like Affinity which lets you design your civilzation on a global scale.
I was Halo: Combat Evolved 10th anniversary edition. This was the first game I got for the XBOX. The game is still very good, although the vehicles seem a little slower. I have the game as a rental from Gamefly - I am thinking of purchasing it. (I don't like that I have to spent money to get the final terminal Threshold, which is available through the Waypoint. I can't remember which of the later Halo games had all the terminals available through the Waypoint.) I am on the fence with the XBOX One. I read many of the reviews on Amazon, and I am hearing that there are technical issues with the machine. I stayed with XBOX because, for me, they had a wider range of games than the PS. Playing the whole Halo series, and seeing the remastered Halo 2, and playing the Metro series, with the first game's issues fixed and having customization for the guns, are two pluses for me. On the negative side, I probably won't use all the features on the XBOX One. I use the console for games; not for socialization.
I've always felt that Alien and Outland universes would make great crossovers. I mean, the visual style and corporate natures are just so similar. In fact, I would love to do a crossover story of the Alien, Outland, and Blade Runner universes. Weyland-Yutani (Alien), ConAm (Outland), and Tyrell Corp (Blade Runner) as competing corporations with their own private military forces. And the Colonial Marines as peacekeepers caught in the middle, and often on the bad side of all three. In fact, in the bios for the Nostromo crew in (I believe) the blu-ray of Alien (in special features), I believe it had Brett, the assistant engineer, having a prior work experience with a Tyrell Corporation.
