Your latest purchases, cont.

That was quick; wasn't it only published last year? I'm curious because I'm in the process of publication too, and the way my publisher has done things is that the advance they gave me is roughly equal to what they expect to have otherwise paid out in first-year royalties i.e. unless sales exceed that first-year expectation, I'm not until expecting royalties until year two. So does your early royalty cheque mean that the book is selling very well? Congratulations! Very cool.

It seems to be selling very well. In fact, by the standards of academic monographs, it seems to be a bestseller.

I didn't get an advance. OUP pays royalties twice a year, so the cheque I received covered the period from April to September 2011.

My book was published in the UK at the end of August last year. By the end of September, it had sold close to nine hundred copies.

But by the end of September last year, my book had only just been released in the USA. And according to the OUP website, it has been reprinted twice since then. So the best may be yet to come.

On the other hand--if I'd known it was going to sell this well, I would have written a better book. :(

Well done!!

As for the last line, that's what second editions and sequels are for! :D

I got a new Casio little alarm clock, mine stopped working after almost 30 years of distinguished service.

I couldn't find it in red, like my faithful one, but this was close enough.

These are my seasonly Zoid purchases: Valga and Arosaurer. Taking into consideration that I've been hearing that Valga are getting rare (and I've observed that they are getting pricy), and this is the first completely new design from the Rebirth line that I've bought, I'm quite excited with this one.

I managed to get Arosaurer for about $6, not including shipping, which was I think around $7. I have always thought that Arosaurer looks like a sturdy design, and it looks like his leg design is similar to many in the Saurer family (namely Gravity Saurer), so this should be a fun build.

Oddly enough, I found that three of Valga's pieces has managed to escape from their sprues, and a forth was hanging by only one sprue branch, so I decided to snap it off, and put all four of them in the bag that only had one sprue to decrease the chances of them rubbing up against something and getting scratched. I guess this means that at least in this case, Valga's plastic is pretty hard, which I guess is better than the softened plastic that I've heard that Rebirth Heldigunner has, which I recall one Zoidspoison member saying that cutting the excess plastic from the sprues being like carving chocolate.

I know the photo is a little blurry, but it was pretty cloudy by the time I managed to take it, my silver camera had dead batteries in it thanks to my dad, who didn't change it, so I had to use his camera, which doesn't have a Tulip button like my silver camera, so I had to make due. Beggars can't be choosers, and considering that it started to rain soon after I went back inside, I'm probably lucky to get what got.
