And I have to go back in a couple of weeks and shell out another $200 bucks. They're making a mouthguard for me; apparently, I've been grinding my teeth---or tooth, to be specific. Just one molar, on one side, is getting ground down. So I need to nip that in bud before it does any real damage. So I got a cleaning, a scan for the mouthguard, x-rays, and two fillings replaced (been putting that off for some time, but now it's done).
Major difference between the US and UK. I had major surgery on my teeth when I was a kid and it didn't cost my parents a thing. All parts of the NHS service. If it was the US, it would have been in the thousands I bet.
Braces here in Australia are very pricey, this was back in 1984 and back then it cost my parents around $3000 for one set. I don't know if dentists still do them now or something else has come along but it's not cheap.
