Your latest purchases, cont.

cool! My dad told me only the other day that he's a Doctor Who fan. He never saw the series on TV but read most of the early novels. I'm thinking of making a few Dalek and Tardis cookies for Christmas =)

just ordered on blu-ray:

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (the best Halloween sequel imho, even though it's in a different universe, of sorts)
Summer of 84
Threads
Perfume of the Lady in Black

I didn't have to purchase the services of a tree guy. I chainsawed a tree that had just died. I chainsawed the hell out of it. Good way to get rid of a little frustration.
Just one piece of advice: when you are worried about something and distracted-- that's not a good time. I slipped and came thisclose to taking a chunk out of my leg.

Wow. Threads is a depressing movie.
It is. I have this moderately sized fear of nuclear war, prob from growing up during the hight of the Cold War, and I enjoy tormenting myself. Saw the Day After when it aired, I was 13, and I had nightmares for a week afterwards. No horror movie has ever done that to me.

Have you ever seen Testament? Doesn't show the war but does show the aftermath.
Not yet, but it's on my list... is it worth a view? I noticed that it's on Prime right now so maybe after October (horror movie month) I'll check it out.
I read On the Beach about 15 years ago and it made me cry in a couple of spots.... like I said, I enjoy torturing myself. :P

Yikes! Be careful ! I know a guy who cut his finger tip off in a machine shop and the cut was so clean he didn't even realize it until he saw the piece fall to the floor .

Testament is pretty good, definitely sad. On the Beach is an excellent movie. Just watched it again last week.
Sweet, I'll check it sometime when I'm in the mood for a cry. :weep:

Just bought a bunch of pocket sized DC Comics (the Blue Ribbon ones) from eBay. Well, not from eBay, cause that's not how eBay works, but you know what I mean.

I enrolled for TSA Pre, $85 for 5 years and I get to go in the shorter line, don't have to take off my shoes or remove my laptop. I figured if I can't really fight them, I may as well join them.

I didn't know that was a thing. Is the assumption that people with actual malicious intent somehow can't afford $85?

I suspect that they'll monitor the bank accounts of those people who registered for the special service, assuming that people with bad intent spend a lot of money for explosives or earn a lot of bonuses by gangster bosses. Figures, sorta: politicians don't get checked either and may keep their shoes on.

Very very sound advice. I wholeheartedly second that. It also goes for lawn mowers, hedge clipping devices, scalpels and carving knifes. In short: anything with a sharp blade, rotating parts or sharp edges.
On the other hand (and using the necessary care), making firewood with an axe is a really good anger-release. If you don't trust yourself with an axe, try stomping big cartons and boxes flat :)

I assumed the $85 was to pay for the extra background screening they would run on you as part of the approval process. You should know in a couple weeks whether you are approved, and then it's good for five years.

Several US airports also have something available called "CLEAR" which is similar but run by a private company (:wtf:). I think the annual cost was about $180 the last time I checked, and it is usable immediately.

While there are some differences in the details, to me, both options basically let you jump to the front of the line by paying a fee. So those on a tight budget are at a disadvantage.
