@TribbleFeeder, I am curious: What's the best places to eat cheesesteaks in Philly?

I don't mean Geno's or Pat's - those are probably just for tourists (although I admit, Pat's steaks are delicious). I mean the really authentic ones.

Oh, and: Wiz, widdout. :techman:

Ohhhhh boy are you in for a treat.

Onions are preference. Wiz wit. Wiz witout, still a good steak. It’s about the roll 90% of the time.

***** You need to go to Philips Steaks. They have THE BEST and MOST CONSISTANT cheesesteaks in Philly!!! I stand by this with every fiber of my being.

Second to Phil’s would be Pats, only if you order “extra” cheese. Pats isn’t as good without the extra cheese. That’s a commonly accepted norm.

Jim’s steaks is good but not as consistent. It really depends what time of the day you go and how busy they are. For whatever reason, if they’re not busy, it’s not as good.

GENOS SUCKS. THEY ARE RACIST. DON’T GO THERE!
They literally have a sign up saying something along the lines of don’t order if you can’t speak English. And their business is smack dab in the middle of a Mexican neighborhood. I hate that place. *SPITS*

Roast pork: do not go to Tony Luke’s.

Go to the shack. JOHNS ROAST PORK. It’s on Water and Snyder Streets. You will not regret this.

Roast Beef: Nicks Roast Beef ONLY. THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE!

They will even make your order to suit your needs...scoop the roll, extra sauce, extra dry, end of the roast, scraps, etc.

^ Thanks for the tip!

I will definitely make note of this, the next time I visit Philly. I'm always on the lookout for good advice from locals.

@TribbleFeeder, have you ever been to Citizens Bank Park? Baseball is the only sport I know anything about, and I loved CBP. The cheesesteaks there were very good, too. And as a visiting fan...I promise I'll be ready next time. ;)

Oh and on a mostly unrelated matter: Has SEPTA Key been rolled out throughout Philly's transit system? As much of a subway/rail freak as I am, I like to keep a close watch on things like this.

I admire others' abilities to appreciate food and travel so much.

I'm not one bit "Foodie". I also like to stay where I'm comfortable. I used to have that adventurous spirit, but I seem to have lost it.

Please don't any of you lose those traits. :)

CBP is awesome. I love the food, especially the crab fries. Good call!

And yeah, tokens are done. It’s all keycard now.

Let me know next time you’re in the area!

I tried to be a football fan in my late teens. I'd even bought a few packs of football cards and based on their colors and logo and my love for dolphins, in general, I was going to be a Dolphins fan. Yeah, didn't stick. Then, years later I married an avid Patriots fan (who, ironically, chose the Patriots because of their colors and uniforms and the fact that they learned of the Patriots in 1976 and their dad told them what a patriot is, so they learned something).

Also found out what this means. Interesting, but TBH, I can't really say I'm a fan of Cheez Whiz, sorry.

I usually have provolone cheese on a cheesesteak, even though I know the Cheez Whiz is the authentic way.

Kor

Cheez Whiz is delicious on a 'steak. Definitely my favorite topping.

Whiz is definitely the preferred cheese, it’s also important to note that it’s not the stuff you get in a jar or spray can, it’s a lot more delicious than that garbage :ack:

But a lot of people mix it up with cheese. A common one is provolone AND whiz. Some people like American because it’s a little salty too. The whiz just melts so nicely with the juices from the steak though...

Toppings — long hots or hot cherry peppers are common, but ALWAYS Heinz ketchup.
