Your latest purchases, cont.

The mask I ordered of Garrus from Mass Effect arrived today. The detail is pretty amazing!

Don't know what it is, but it sure looks cool!

Going to Comicon?

Kor

I've already got costumes planned for October but I may wear it in November. It's pretty hard to see out of though and was mainly bought as a display piece but we'll see. I'm terrible and creating armour though so I'm tempted to have it as a cosplay mashup and wear a Starfleet uniform with the mask.

It arrived yesterday. When i was at school, thirty odd years ago, there was a book about human anatomy explained in terms of machine components.

It was called How Your Body Works. I tracked it down and bought a second hand copy for the kids. It’s just as quirky as I remember it.

I also bought booze.

that book sounds cool! =)

Got another lot of glass jars today as this year's excellent peach harvest left me without a single jar. My conniving gherkin plant sprouted a twine at the back and grew 3 huge fruit hanging down the bucket where I couldn't see them. I discovered them only by coincidence. They are way too large for gherkins but might make a nice mustard pickle.

Didn't buy the memory I had planned on getting. I decided there were a few other priorities I needed to take care of, first. I can stand to get away from my PC every hour or so when I'm working.

I got a new router table. It was a Lowes combo deal that included a router. Sure, it's Kobalt, but it will work for now. I had thought about getting a cheapo router table/router combo from Menards, but it seemed too cheap.

What was cool was that when I got it home and unboxed it, I realized that the table, itself, was aluminum. The Menards special was a laminated MDF table. Bonus!

Purchased hardwood (poplar) boards, as well.

I also purchased a new USB switch. The Logitech KVM switch I had turned OFF my keyboard quickly, but coming back on it took several seconds. It was just annoying. This one does not have a video component to it and is just a four USB device to two computers (only attached to one). The reason I even have it is that I have three cats, two of whom LOVE to walk all over my keyboard and I needed a way of deactivating it.

Lastly, I got an SATA to USB adapter so I can use my Blu-Ray writer on my PC. I have a Thermaltake P5 case which had NO 3-1/2 or 5-1/5 drive slots. Well, it's kinda all exposed and there are no slots whatsoever. Hell, I don't even have the protective acrylic shield on it. I'll get pics, eventually.

The reason for the router table is that I'll be making some tambour doors for pull-out shelves for my hall closet. Each shelf will have its own slide-up door.

I've always been disappointed in how tambour doors have been made in recent years (think rolltop desks): wood slats with a fabric back that allowed it to articulate. I've wanted traditional tambour doors since I was in junior high school and I got a tambour door router bit set a few months back while my dad was in the hospital. The finished slats interlock; no fabric involved.

I think I'll finally be making my rolltop desk, as well. Gonna have to be rather tall to accommodate my 43-inch monitor/TV.

So, I was going to ask why your router would need a special table. But then I kept reading, and saw this:

So I'm guessing there's something else called a "router" of which I am totally unaware. :alienblush:

In my defense, pretty much everything else in your post was computer-related, so...

LOL! :D

This is what I got:

The tool, itself, is called a router. It holes a bit that spins like a saw blade, but the bits generally have a specific shape to them. It's what you would use to put a decorative edge on a piece of wood or other material.

Here's the bit set that I have that allows me to easily create the tambour door slats:

And a late addition today:

And I would get why someone would think that I only post about computer-related items. Both the rest of my post and my post history in this thread. ;)
