Your dream Thirteenth Doctor

Two odd thoughts for a 13th Doctor.

One, have there not be an announcement of who the new Doctor is before Capaldi's last episode.

Two A: Have the new companion be the Doctor (fob watched perhaps, or finding out only when he is dying and seeing the TARDIS leave without him, and another lands in a setting he found his companion forming a paradox loop were the Doctor has to play the companion for time to work out. When the series ends he regenerates into the companion. The following season we see the new Doctor is back to "normal". Calling him or herself something that is short for thirteen in another language during series 10, but the Doctor in series 11.

Two B: Have the Doctor regenerate into Peter Cushing at the end of the series. At the start of the next series have a brand new companion find the TARDIS with the Cushing Doctor dying, he regenerates into the 14th Doctor near the start of the first episode of Series 11. This would make the Cushing Doctor canon as the 13th Doctor, and they can skip the unlucky 13 by going to 14 for the series.

What we need is less convolution, not more.

And as much as I would love to have the new Doctor kept a secret, it will never happen in this day and age of mobile phone cameras and the Internet.

My dream is still a proper run of episodes for Paul McGann... whether he's back playing the 8th, or also the 13th through some time-wimey technicality.

^ If the hiatus were after Capaldi's final season and not before it then a McGann year would be conceivable. Alternatively, it might be nice to have McGann appear in the Capaldi era as an adversary - a Doctor for whom Twelve's recent actions paint him as something of a villain.

Paul McGann won't be back as a new Doctor, best we can hope for is a multi Doctor story in s10, which is still unlikely just less so :)

I wonder at what point 13 will be cast? At the moment there's been no announcement as to whether Capaldi will leave with Moff

Simon Baker or Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Posh, smartly dressed in a sort of old gentleman's hunting get-up. A bit old fashioned, visibly restrained but explosively enthusiastic. Full of swagger but a bit too self-conscious to relish in it.
I just remembered another who would suit, Julian Wadham. He has always struck me as having a particularly suitable twinkle in his eye.

Warwick Davies would be an interesting choice. They could even work the "Emperor of Known Space" into it somehow. Seeing Clara again, asking her to marry him. Not knowing he was also the Doctor.

But funny. He'd still be dealing with the Cybermen problems. They'd need to take his TARDIS away so he didn't run off as often.

I like Elba a lot, and actually I'm warming to the idea of him as Bond, but as the Doctor? I just cannot see it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he couldn't do it, but I really can't picture what that performance would look like that doesn't just feel like Idris Elba being a little wacky.

I could see it. Based on his past performances, he is capable of being charming and likeable as well as portraying an angry dark side.

^ I would LOVE that. Sid would be awesome.

Patterson Joseph, Jason Isaacs, James Nesbitt, Craig Ferguson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Morgan, Domhnall Gleeson, Adian Turner, Kevin Ryan, Mathew Macfadyen....those are the first names to come to mind.

Abso-smeggin-lutely!!! Craig Ferguson He would be off the wall amazing! I can see him being basically a Troughton style Doctor! totally energetic and fun! great choice mate! Craig Ferguson:beer:
Could you imagine a two doctor story with him and Capaldi?? now that I would pay to see!! Craig Ferguson show would have the last laugh! he never got to have Capaldi on his show as the Doctor.. so he ends up on Capaldi's show as a Doctor!! that would be so ironic and smashingly brilliant, my head just exploded!! excellent suggestion!!

I remember reading an interview with Idris where he said he would love to the play the Doctor but wasn't sure he could, as whenever he greeted little children, they recoiled in terror. He said he smiles and waves at little ones in shops and they always end up crying! I do love Idris Elba, though.

I would soooo love to see Craig Ferguson as the Doctor. Doubt it will ever happen but it would be EPIC. :bolian:

Imagine the two of them together in a 2 doctor special! CIRCUS OF CRAZINESS!! Craig would make the show so fun, it would feel like Troughton and Pertwee were all wrapped in one character! serious at times, and yet totally crazy funny zaney all at once! especially if Ferguson shows up in signature Drag for an episode!! OMG!!

For better or worse, they'll be going with a more youthful actor for the next Doctor (they pretty much have to following Peter anyway). I'd say no more than early 40s in practice. So, I've been looking at the suggestions here and the median age being tossed around is around Peter's age - early to mid fifties. Even Alexander Siddig, who would have been my choice for the Tenth Doctor, is 50 now.

As such, I'd love to have the next actor have qualities like Craig Ferguson's charm or Idris Elba's gravitas, but in a younger person. This basically removes anyone I'd know, or most of us who don't watch much British television.

I'm really left with Olivia Coleman as a result. :P
