Who are your favourite Doctors?

Not counting any of the "pulled out of their asses" Doctors/Bigenerations, etc.:

Troughton
Pertwee
T. Baker
Smith
Tennant
Davison
C. Baker
Eccleston
Capaldi
McGann
Hartnell
Whittaker
McCoy
Gatwa

Had McGann had more productions he would be much higher on my list. Had McCoy not rolled his Rs so damn annoyingly much he would have also been higher.

It’s weird. I always subscribe to the idea that you get two Doctors, much as you sort of get two Bonds.
The first one you watch, and then the one that makes the most impact as it’s either just the right time in your life, or the one you simply engage with the most.

For me, that would be Davison (though I probably did see Tom’s last couple of seasons I was far too young to remember it) and then for the longest time would have been McCoy. Helped by both the wilderness years and the existence of Ace it must be said.
Over time, I have had to sort of add to the pantheon or reconsider.
I quite like Six when he was in the DWm comics. And Baker is a nice chap, who had wholly depressing stories, that even when they were good drama were probably bad Doctor Who. But Six in Voyager? I liked him then and maybe only then.
The EDAs are simply too good at times to ignore Eight. McGann. His audios are ok too of course, but not my primary source.
NuWho comes along, and Smith does an *amazing* job. And then Capaldi is also doing an *amazing* job. Both utter distillations of the character, as though Terrance Dicks oft quoted mission statement has come to life.
And as I get older, rather than being as overrated as I once found him, usually by the loudest voices in fandom, I find myself quite enjoying Tom. And reevaluating Perrwee as well, once the ‘Tory’ Doctor and much maligned in fan opinion in the nineties.

I’d like to be like the Brigadier, and say ‘splendid chaps, all of them’ but some just didn’t land for me anywhere near as strongly as others. Some are historical curios. (One, Two) Some were alright, I suppose. (Nine, Ten) Some had perhaps only one or two stories I actually enjoyed (Thirteen, Fifteen) but were otherwise in the same bucket as six, but perhaps even worse off.

Overall, Smith is the Doctoriest of Doctors, but calling him my favourite would feel wrong.

I cannot recommend Big Finish's Eighth Doctor audio plays enough. There are so many fantastic stories with him and his output is (probably) the most out of all of Doctors on Big Finish. There are multiple points of entry for you to jump in at with a variety of wonderful companions. There are some stories that work better in audio format over televised (most notably The Natural History of Fear) as well as a Christmas adventure that's better than any of the Christmas specials (The Chimes of Midnight).

Bonus question: What was the best Doctor's speech?

My vote 12 in the Zygon two parter

I will see your 12 Zygon speech and raise you "Winning? Is that what you think it's about?" from The Doctor Falls pt. 2. The Greatest Regeneration Story Ever (that wasn't actually a regeneration story but was clearly meant to be).

I'll go on (and on) about Silence in the Library. But this might be the greatest moment of Doctor Who. If Doctor Who were ever going to end then this Final Speech to The Master(s) is where we're going. Where we've always been going.

And Michelle Gomez! "It's all I've ever wanted." "Me too." 😢

(I do loves me a Pandorica Speech.)

The BF audios alone climbed him to my favorite Doctor spot. They're that good.

Tom Baker (my first Doctor)
Capaldi
Smith
Tennant

The rest are about equally good for me. I’ve liked every Doctor so far.

I started listening to them on Hoopla a few months ago, and the first two were fantastic. Which reminds me, I need to get listening to The Stones of Venice.
