:scream:

I predict it will make a Gazillion dollars.

I already spent about $55, (3 shirts a CD and cereal) so far and I haven't even seen the movie yet!

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

I have read this thread with great interest. Following movies and their domestic box office is a bit of a hobby of mine, and I love the predictions for a 300 million dollar film. I must admit I am a bit more cautious and think 300 million may be way on the high end.

Don't get me wrong, I want the film to succeed. I have heard a good amount of buzz even from teenagers about the film, so I think there will be a significant box office opening....I think my lowest expectation would be in the 40-50 million dollar range. I know this sounds small compared to some of the other estimates being thrown around here, but folks, a 50 million dollar opening is a pretty huge weekend. If I remember correctly only two movies have done that thus far this year (Watchmen and Monsters vs Aliens).

I hope those wishing for the higher end totals for a weekend opening are correct.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

It'll definitely be the highest-grossing Star Trek movie. I'm going to guess it'll settle somewhere in $400 million range? A little higher, maybe.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

For one of the few times in my life, I'm going to be conservative.

40-50 million opening weekend.
20-30 million second weekend.

Long-term, $300-325 million domestic.

Why do I think such?

Everyone and their mother can say they're going to go see it; the simple fact is, it's still called "Star Trek" and a great many people will, when the time comes, not put their money where their mouth is -- not at first.

I think this film will follow a "word of mouth" track, in which it's success is based upon the people who see it in it's first two weekends telling friends and family it's good.

Still, it'll be Trek's biggest opening weekend ever, and biggest cash haul ever, and make at least double it's budget back in domestic gross. Likely triple or more in international.

I just don't see it being a massive blow-'em-outta-the-water smash hit with the baggage associated with Star Trek. It's asking too much, too quick.

I see this film as akin to Batman Begins - it'll do well, especially over time, and convince people over the year or two to follow that Trek isn't what it once was. Then I see the second film doing phenomenal out of the gate, in more Dark Knight territory, because people will no longer be hesitant to embrace it. They'll know the baggage of old has been cut loose.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

It'll open big, then have a drop off. Unless word of mouth kicks in and people start going back. By "people" I mean casual fans. There just aren't enough Trekkies to make this thing stay big.

Good thing they are going for mainstream appeal ;) Which is why I'm still convinced there weren't 3/4 Billion Dollars worth of Transformers fans worldwide!

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

Damn "Frontier" beat me to it, but it is unlikely to have high initial numbers... even i have my concerns, so i'm not going to waste a few weeks pocket money without reading some reviews first.

remember that the budget is 150m... so any revenue above 200m shows significant interest.

If this movie isn't too corny, and relates to intellect rather than stereotype as a lot of modern movies do, i think it could gain back interest from 'normal teens'. And that is all the franchise needs.

I think that too be successful it has to capture teenagers attention, not ram it down their throat.

Personally if it makes half as much $$ as transformers (700m), and is half as gay i think it will be a success... and these films are very similar in many ways (numerous series behind both, reinvention, 150m budget).

ill wait n see.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

8 bazillion dollars, give or take.

Seriously, I've had the feeling ever since the budget was announced that Paramount were raising their hopes just a wee bit. However, we've never had a Star Trek designed as a being a big tentpole feature, so I hope I'm wrong. :)

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

Domestic $55-75 Million Opening Weekend
Domestic $160-190 Million Total

Worldwide $80-100 Million Total

Solid, but not a Monster hit. Of course I hope for more.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

The biggest obstacle people have is that some still see it as a "Star Trek" film. Some will be turned off by just that.

WOM is the key

"intellect" in "normal teens"?

See Paul Blart and Fast and Furious. :(

Edit: Monsters v. Aliens, for that matter.

No intellect required, sheer entertainment.

72 mill first weekened for F&F, 105 mill second weekend for MvA.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

Between $70 million and $90million domestic run. Overseas about half that.
