Well, the morons who run iesb are now copping to this being an April Fool's joke.

Evidently, sometime late this afternoon someone came to, looked at the calendar and realized that this was April 1st. So as soon as they could peel themselves away from hugging the john they just dashed out the first stupid prank they could think of.

Real impressive, those tools.

That figures.

As a report, it was pretty weak. As an April Fool's joke, it sits squarely on Lame.

Paramount would be aiming for a transformers type of box office intake of 300+ million domestic....transformers got 323mill
But seriously, the word of mouth for this movie is huugee...most people on the board are seriously underestimating the chances of this film......

I'm guessing $50 million on opening weekend, $160 million total domestic. Overseas another $100 million. It doesn't fit the profile of films break $300 million domestic and I don't think it's got enough buzz to break $200 million domestic (which Batman Begins was in the neighbourhood of).

My guess is probably pretty unlikely -- genre films generally don't get that kind of multiplier (3.2 as I have it). It'll likely need more like $60 or $65 million on opening weekend to hit $160 million. If it runs as expected and only opens with $50 million, somewhere between $125 and $150 million is a lot more likely. There are a number of reasons to think that this movie won't follow the same path that most genre and action films do, though.

The first weekend gross will probably be pretty big, somewhere around $80 million in the U.S. After that, it depends on if that great opening weekend was a fanboy effect or the movie actually gets legs.
If it earns somewhere around $250 million domestically, after inflation, that would be about what TMP did and a little better than TVH. You'd think this movie would at least perform as well as those two Trek movies, wouldn't you? So maybe $300 million U.S. is not out of the picture. And, probably that much internationally, too.

I predict that it will make at least $6.00 (matinee price) at the NCG Cinema in Acworth, GA... $12 if I can drag my wife along.

I doubt that they can, at this point.

Now, I've never created a torrent, so I don't know - but couldn't someone create a file of, oh, "The Chronicles Of Riddick" and label it "Star Trek" and turn it loose as an April Fool's stunt? The thing would probably be shared a few dozen times before anyone knew they'd been had, and by then the rumors would be rampant.

Yes, they can and guess what, some did. Out of curiosity I discovered such a fake: episodes of that fanmade Star Trek Phase II (New Voyages) put together. The worst part is, for the first 50 seconds i actually believed this was the real deal.

If it is a good movie, one that regular people will like, and if critics go with it, I could se it hitting that note that TDK hit, seriously.

If the TT aspects are confusing and leave people lost, and if Nero is merely "evil" and not a real character, than it will do bad business.

If they made a good movie as has been reported by all who have seen it, it could do TDK busienss.
