Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office tracking)

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

I am thinking about $325 million domestically and another $150-200 million world wide with a grand total of $475-525 million total.

I am an optimist.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

If all the Trekkies go see it four or five times, it might do $350m world wide.

With all the upcoming science fiction, it isn't bound to do well with casual movie goers.

I don't know where the idea that non-fans are so into it comes from. Outside of SF&F circles, it's existence is still widely unknown.

I talk to people everyday who either don't know about it, or do and have a lukewarm attitude about it.

F*ck. There are rumors that star trek has been released online, just as Wolverine was released.

I'm going to be pissed if true and if it ruins the box office take for May.

Edit: About the wolverine leak
here is the FBI statement! about wolverine

ETA: here's a story on Trek being leaked.

If all the Trekkies go to see it four or five times and only the Trekkies go, it won't get anywhere near 100 million.

That's not a site that really reports news, that's iesb. Has anyone else picked this up?

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

^That's true!

Oh, the man in charge over there is so histrionic on behalf of Fox that he's beyond simple copy editing of his own crap:

In a time that we are living in, our economy in shambles, friends losing their jobs through out our industry, Hollywood must succeed and piracy must be stopped.

Our readers and friends can help fight piracy by sending me any links and reporting any websites that are making this movie available for download. You can send the links to me, robert@iesb.net, and I will forward them to our friends over at 20th Century Fox.

Hollywood must succeed!

The civilized planets must be destroyed!

:guffaw:

Like I said, it's rumors on twitter. That was the only "article" that I could find. I'm praying it's not true.

Edit: here is the iesb twitter

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

I'll guess about 154m domestic, 80m foreign.

That explains it - iesb is sourcing stories off of Twitter now.

Well, there are at least three files out on the torrent sites within the last 24 hours labeled as Star Trek 2009, and they're quite large with few seeds. Might well be a practical joke - they could in fact be anything, couldn't they?

Well there's some direct-download sites out there that claim to have it up, but they're the kind where one has to pay to register. The only link to a torrent host I was able to locate was to a torrent that had been deleted. So either it's real and Paramount is acting fast, or it's fake and the direct download folks are using the news to try and get money.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

If it's true, I'm praying Paramount is blocking it quickly. If it's false, then this is the best (worst) April Fools.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

Star Trek will make the most of any summer blockbuster this year... One MILLION dollars. *Puts pinky up to corner of mouth*

I doubt that they can, at this point.

Now, I've never created a torrent, so I don't know - but couldn't someone create a file of, oh, "The Chronicles Of Riddick" and label it "Star Trek" and turn it loose as an April Fool's stunt? The thing would probably be shared a few dozen times before anyone knew they'd been had, and by then the rumors would be rampant.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

I know I'm being naive about Paramount stopping the release if it happened, but I'm really surprised that this could occur in the first place, with the amount of control and secrecy that this movie has been under.

Very easily. That kind of spoofing was rampant for, for example, the latter half of BSG's final season.

I had the same thought: given the very tight lid which was kept on everything during production and the rigidly-scheduled manner in which material has been released to date, it would constitute a colossal fuck-up for anything to be leaked now in a way not according to plan.

TrekMovie has reported IESB's rumor and is looking into it.

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

Well, the morons who run iesb are now copping to this being an April Fool's joke.

Evidently, sometime late this afternoon someone came to, looked at the calendar and realized that this was April 1st. So as soon as they could peel themselves away from hugging the john they just dashed out the first stupid prank they could think of.

Real impressive, those tools.
