So it seems Young Washingtin is getting fairly good reviews and it's made more than expected on its opening weekend. This is one of my summer movie picks I've been wanting to see. This period of U.S. before and during the revolutionary war I find very interesting since I was a kid. I wanted to know has anyone seen it? Is it good? How faithful is it to history? I'm sure there will be artistic license for drama but did the get the overall history correct? Was it an enjoyable film? There are a few of my favorite actors on it. Sir Ben Kingsley and Kelsey Grammar. Im hoping they both anchor the film with their performances. I know a lot of people get bored by historical films but im hoping there are a few here that enjoy them. Feel free to rate it if you've seen it.

Just glanced at the tvtropes trivia page, and it says;

"According to the credits, the film hired one AI Director, five AI Artists, and one "AI Utility" to augment about a hundred of shots."

... yeah, think I'll skip this one. No interest in supporting the scam that's burning up the planet and costing countless people their jobs.

Seems to have done well and they okayed a sequal.. either movie or series i don't know 1776.

As for use of Ai? its a tool, its out there.

I'll wait for streaming.

But it does remind me a bit of Sons of Liberty, which I enjoyed despite not being historically accurate.

It seems like a.i. is here to stay. As with past tech I dont see it disappearing. Hopefully it won't be as all encompassing as our fears. As good as it can make people and images there's still something artifical about the images and the movements of the people and cameras. Let's hope it doesn't replace everyone.

That's cool. I didn't know a sequel was being made.

Yeah a.i. is here. My company is still trying to replace us. Its been 3 years but its had limited application for my work. Looks like it will be more of an assistant. Thankfully.

I might have to wait for streaming depending on my time.

Never heard of it. Where is this streaming?

It's at the theater right now. Here is the preview. Looks really good in my opinion. I suspect it will stream pretty quickly. While its not a flop its also not a blockbuster. It was released for the 4th of July.

Oh ok, it might be specific to the U.S as I don't see it listed in Canada. Fair enough though given what it's supposed to represent. I suspect there might be a wider release later.

Yeah. Fortunately or unfortunately, it's part of the process now. The company I work for, which foreswore AI tools for some time, is this week wrapping work on a commercial where everything that would have been a traditional 3D animation and rendering pipeline a few years ago is being handled with AI. The tools have been built, it's just a matter of clients asking for it.

As for the film: there's not a lot of mainstream coverage, so I feel like the only one who's commented on how much it seems to have been (maybe) influenced by The Last Jedi, of all movies.

Washington gets a combination of Poe and Luke's arcs: he's sure he's the greatest shit ever, won't listen to people telling him he's unsuited for leadership, makes bad calls that get a bunch of people killed, runs away to hide, gets a lecture about how failure is the greatest teacher (and I swear to God they near-verbatim quoted Yoda while saying so), then rides back out to the plains of Crait Virginia to face down the First Order French so the Resistance Virginian Militia have time to escape, all while being immune to laser fire bullets and becoming a legend. The only thing I was waiting for was for somebody to cut Andy Serkis in half.

I sound sarcastic, but I did actually enjoy the movie. I could have done without the scene of the Native chief telling Washington he's protected by God, and if I have any major story critique for the film as a whole it's that the way it's structured seems to imply that, yes, America made mistakes, but the mistake-making is over now and we learned all we need to so don't worry about it. But I went into the movie with low expectations -- I knew it was a faith-backed "inspirational" thing, and I only went because family wanted to see it -- and I was impressed by just how bad they were willing to make Washington look for most of the story. They really do paint him as a colossal fuckup who has to earn the right to be a badass, and I found that version of him -- in over his head -- rather endearing.

7/10, good if not great. I'm sure I'll watch it again and it may make it into the 4th of July rotation along with the Independence Day movies and Top Gun: Maverick.

I looked at showtimes for the films at my local theatre this weekend. Young Washington has more showtimes this weekend than last. It looks like it's taking up two screens at my theatre versus one from the week before. I'm guessing it sold pretty well for it to receive an additional screen.

I'm guessing this is getting good word of mouth. This makes sense to me as we haven't gotten a whole lot of strong male leads in films lately. So there is demand without enough product.
