Y The Last Man

I thought the intention with the proposed film was to treat it as the first in a series by adapting the events up the bit with the two astronauts. While I'm sure it's possible to tell the story in just a two hour film, I don't think it'd do the subject matter much justice. Not that I'm the sort who insists on slavishly adhering to the letter of the source material, quite the contrary in fact; that approach is often detrimental to a project. However there sheer scope of the initial disaster and the long term consequences are bound to get shoved into the background if it's all done in one hit and for me that's where the heart of the story lies; how a civilisation adapts to a world without males.

Perhaps the best balance would be struck with a miniseries? 'The Stand' mini certainly springs to mind as a point of comparison and unlike that story, 'Y The Last Man' actually has a third act! ;)
Of course I think just about every half decent book should be made into a mini series. Hell the first of the three B5 Psi Corps book practically screams "three part miniseries" to me.

I'm not saying I want each individual panel to be adapted into a shot for a TV show, just that it's a world I'd rather revisit week after week rather than for just a couple hours every few years.

They didn't directly answer the central question of the series and there was an incredible sad tear-jerking scene involving an animal.
I loaned the series to my brother and promptly forgot all about it. A couple days later he calls and the first words out of his mouth aren't 'hello' or 'hi' but "Ampersand died!". It took me a couple seconds to figure out what the hell that meant completely out of context.

Vaughan definitely didn't pull any punches on that last issue.

Nothing makes me sadder than the death/abuse of a pet/animal since they can't understand what or why is happening to them.
