XI's affect on TREK

This saturday, out of the blue, my fifteen year old daughter, who had just seen XI the day before, asked me if STAR TREK II's Kobyahsi Maru was the same test Kirk was taking in XI..

I was watchinig KHAN about a week ago, before she had seen XI, and she sat down for about five minutes and watched for a bit, five minutes, before going swimming with her friend. It was the opening scene of TREK 2 that she had glimpsed.

So, on saturday, it finally clicked in her mind that all these years of watching TREK II off and on, that it was indeed a related scene to the new movie starring her new hearthrob; Pine.

So we watched TREK II on saturday. Now, ta-da, she likes KHAN because now she can bridge the two movies together.

This is a good sign. She is showing an open mind to watch TOS now simply because of JJ's trek. This is a good thing, I think ,for Star Trek's future. I really believe this new TREK movie series will inspire some, not all, but some younger people to revisit TREKs of the past.

Chances are that her 8 year old son will wat a little more Star Trek now and a little less Star Wars.

I brought a friend to the film, and he never watched Trek before. He after we left, he started asking me a bunch of questions about how the characters were in TOS, and now he's searching for episodes. Good job, film

This is wonderful news to hear! I am glad the younger generations are embracing Star Trek.

The philosophy of diversity, mutual respect and tolerance it teaches must live on. It's the only chance we have as a civilization.

I made a friend of mine come to the cinema with me for my 2nd helping - she had never seen any Trek before.

After the movie she was asking me how TOS was different from the movie...and I think I may pursuade her to watch some with me! This is a vast leap for her because until now, every mention of Star Trek has been met with a "look", and possibly a cheap dig about how Star Wars is better...

This is by far the biggest win/win for STAR TREK. And not only has JJ done this, but he also made TREK hip again. Trek, for sometime now, has long sunk into the world of Dorkdome. We all know this. Well, Trek is cool again. And that can only be a GOOD thing...

My 14 yr old daughter watched the movie twice so far, she Loves it.
Now, she is enjoying watching all TNG episodes with me.
So in my mind, the movie has created a new fan of ST, and rejuvinated an old fan

Who ever casted PINE as KIRK should be given a raise. My 15 year old lusts for him, which is fine for me, because she wants to go again this saturday!!!

By best friend and writing partner never did like Star Trek, and can't stand science fiction in general. She loved the new movie. Even caught herself misting up during the end of the Kelvin scene.

That alone impressed the hell out of me.

I have to admid that I even misted up during that scene. It really tugged at the heart-strings. I have seen it five times now, the last time just this past saturday, and the theatre was 70%full...that was so cool. Lots of families and kids...and they were ALL quiet for the kelvin seen as George faces his ultimate fate as his son, Jim, is born..great scene...Some have complained it was too, oh, manufactured? Well..so what. IT WORKED!!!

ummm..let me get this straight..SHE GOT A CALL IN THE THEATRE ON HER CELL PHONE? I hope her mom busted her real good!!! Two weeks with out food or water!!!

This is really good news.

The second time I went and saw XI was it 3 of my friends and really, they've been bagging me for being a Trekkie for sometime and especially before XI release. So yeah, all of them were blown away by the film and the first thing one of my friend said the moment we stepped out of the cinema is. "Mate, Can you please lend me every Episode and Film you have?"

So yeah, if it can turn them around I'm happy.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I took my 11 and 12-year-old nieces to see the film a couple weeks ago. Up until then they'd seen a couple TNG episodes as their only Trek experiences; they loved the movie and want me to bring them some of the original TOS episodes when I visit them. I've already got them hooked on Dr. Who.
